To examine particle-size effects without disturbing the as-formed structure of coal gasification slag (CGS), this work separated raw slag by wet precision sieving into three primary size fractions: <75 μm, 75–150 μm, and >150 μm. The separated fractions were characterized in terms of particle-size distribution, bulk oxides, mineral phases, surface morphology, and pore structure, and the relationships between median primary size and the main physicochemical indices were evaluated. The sieving procedure produced well-bounded fractions, with 75–150 μm representing the largest mass proportion of the raw slag. As the primary size increased, the loss on ignition, residual carbon level, and BET specific surface area decreased, and the amorphous glass phase also declined. In contrast, SiO2, Al2O3, and crystalline-phase proportions rose slightly, whereas CaO and Fe2O3 remained nearly unchanged. These results indicate that primary size records differences in cooling history and carbon retention during gasification. The data provide a basis for size-selective utilization of CGS in cementitious, adsorption, and other resource-oriented applications.
To investigate the morphological occurrence of carbon and ash in coal gasification coarse slag (CS) and their impacts on resource utilization, this study focused on Jinhua CS after grinding for 40 s. Samples with progressively decreasing particle sizes, ranging from CS60 (coarse fraction) to CS200 (fine fraction), were...
To promote the high-value utilization of coal gasification slag (CGS) resources and mitigate the environmental issues caused by its accumulation, CGS was separated into five fractions by particle size (2.36–4.75 mm, 1.18–2.36 mm, 0.60–1.18 mm, 0.30–0.60 mm, and 0.15–0.30 mm) and subsequently ground into CGS powders (CG...

This study investigates the influence of limestone particle size on slag dephosphorization performance during converter injection smelting. High‐temperature calcination and slag dephosphorization experiments were conducted at 1673 K using limestone particles with average sizes of 4, 2.5, 0.84, and <0.074 mm. The deco...

Hydrothermal hydrolysis of TiOSO4 is a critical step in recovering titanium from sulfuric-acid leachates derived from titanium-bearing blast furnace slag (TBFS). This research examined the effects of Mg, Al, and Fe impurities on TiOSO4 hydrolysis and assessed modified coal gasification slag (m-CGS) as a substrate for T...

Coal combustion in thermal power plants generates large quantities of fly ash (CFA), whose utilization remains limited because of considerable variability in particle size, chemical composition, and phase distribution. Since the size and composition of CFA particles largely determine their application potential, a prom...

Microsilica is a commonly used additive in cementitious materials due to its high amorphous SiO2 content, very small particle size, and high pozzolanic activity. However, its effectiveness may depend not only on the chemical composition and physical properties of the material but also on the method of its incorporation...
