The Post-Growth Organization: Success Beyond Size and Profit
Abstract
ABSTRACT Growth is one of the most familiar measures of organizational success. Firms are expected to sell more, expand operations, enter new markets and increase returns. Yet ecological limits, social inequality and concerns about the quality of working life make this assumption increasingly open to question. The post-growth organization offers a different way of thinking about success. It does not require organizations to reject profit, innovation or financial viability. Rather, it asks whether organizations can remain economically sound while giving greater weight to employee well-being, ecological responsibility, democratic participation, community value and long-term resilience. This research blog considers why post-growth thinking matters for organizations, where the present literature remains incomplete, and how it may reshape the meaning of organizational success.
