Effectiveness of the Sisan Ngaji School Program in Strengthening Quranic Literacy and Religious Character
Abstract
The high demand for strengthening character education based on religious values has encouraged the Blora Regency Government to launch the Sekolah Sisan Ngaji (SSN) program at the elementary school level. SSN is a habit of reading and studying the Qur'an integrated into school activities as a reinforcement of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This study aims to describe the structure and implementation methods of SSN in Kunduran District, analyze the implementation of PAI learning through SSN, and assess its effectiveness in improving students' Qur'an reading skills and the formation of religious character. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that SSN includes tahsin, tahfidz, akidah, akhlak, and worship practices carried out both intra- and extracurricular. This program is supported by lectures, questions and answers, demonstrations, drills, and mind mapping methods that make learning more contextual. Student achievement in the aspect of reading the Qur'an is in the category of quite effective (62%–73% proficient), writing is very effective (100% proficient), while memorization is less effective (12%–24% proficient). The effectiveness category was determined based on the percentage of student skill achievement. Supporting factors included the role of teachers, parental support, and student enthusiasm, while limited facilities and resources were the main challenges. This study demonstrated that SSN has implications for strengthening Quranic literacy and religious character through the integration of religious values based on school culture. Overall, SSN proved to be quite effective to very effective in varying degrees in supporting Islamic Religious Education learning objectives.
