IODINE COORDINATION COMPOUNDS OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS: NEW SYSTEMS OF INTEREST FOR ANTI-INFECTIVE RESEARCH
Abstract
Given the increasing threat of antimicrobial resistance and multidrug-resistant pathogens, the development of combined therapeutic systems with preserved anti-infective activity and supportive anti-inflammatory properties is high-ly relevant. This study aimed to synthesize and evaluate novel iodine-containing coordination compounds based on flunixin meglumine and dexamethasone sodium phos-phate. The synthesized compounds were characterized using capillary electrophoresis and UV-spectroscopy. Their cytotoxicity was assessed in PBMC culture, while antimicrobial and antiviral activities were evaluated against bacterial, fungal, and viral pathogens. Two stable compounds, KC-247 and KC-249, were suc-cessfully obtained. Both demonstrated antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcaceae, Pseudomonadaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Enterococcaceae, and yeast-like fungi. MBC values ranged from 0.801–0.200 µg/mL for KC-247 and 2.093–0.523 µg/mL for KC-249. In PBMC culture, CC50 values were 0.072 mg/mL and 0.225 mg/mL, respectively. KC-249 showed pronounced antiviral activity against influenza A (H1N1), while KC-247 demonstrated moderate effects. Neither compound was active against herpes simplex virus type 1. KC-247 and KC-249 exhibited promising an-timicrobial and selective antiviral properties with acceptable cytotoxicity, highlighting their potential as multifunctional candidates for novel anti-infective therapeutics.
