Factors Influencing the Completeness of Antenatal Care Visits Among Pregnant Women in the Working Area of Martubung Community Health Center, Medan

Abstract

Antenatal Care (ANC) is an essential health service for pregnant women to monitor maternal and fetal conditions and to detect pregnancy complications at an early stage. Incomplete ANC visits remain a concern and may contribute to maternal morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with the completeness of ANC visits among pregnant women in the working area of Martubung Public Health Center, Medan. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 112 pregnant women, with 53 respondents selected using the Slovin formula and simple random sampling. In addition, nine informants were involved in the qualitative component. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression, while qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Multivariate analysis showed that knowledge (p=0.015), education (p=0.001), attitude (p=0.018), parity (p=0.009), income (p<0.001), distance to health facilities (p=0.001), maternal health condition (p=0.005), and health worker support (p=0.001) were significantly associated with the completeness of ANC visits. Knowledge was identified as the most dominant factor, with an Exp(B) of 3.572. The completeness of ANC visits among pregnant women was significantly associated with knowledge, education, attitude, parity, income, distance to health facilities, maternal health condition, and health worker support. Knowledge was the most dominant factor associated with ANC visit completeness. Health workers at Martubung Public Health Center are recommended to strengthen education and counseling for pregnant women regarding the importance of completing ANC visits according to recommended service standards.
