Abstract

Variability of growth-related hormones across different chicken (Gallus gallus) genotypes is crucial for understanding their adaptive capabilities, performance potential, and suitability for production in the humid region of Nigeria. This study investigated the diversity of growth-related hormones, specifically insulin and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), among four chicken genotypes—Normal Feather (NF), Frizzle Feather (FF), Naked Neck (NN), and ISA Brown (IB)—raised in Nigeria's humid region. A total of 120 chickens, evenly distributed across genotypes and sexes, were sampled at 24 weeks of age. Hormonal levels were analyzed using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Data were analyzed using the General Linear Model and Cluster Analysis of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (Version 22), the mean difference of the different groups was determined using Two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Significance level was at P

“Hormonal and Lipids Profile Responses to Physiological Status in Female West African Dwarf Goats

A study involving 34 female (doe) West African Dwarf Goat (WADG) was conducted to investigate the hormonal and lipids profile in three different physiological conditions. The goats, reared under a semi-extensive management system, included does in pregnant, lactating, and non-pregnant physiological states. From the...

Effects of dietary energy and protein levels on growth performance and immune competence of CARI-Nirbheek chickens in tropical environments

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of graded concentrations of metabolizable energy (ME) and crude protein (CP) in diet on growth performance, serum biochemical parameters, and immune response of CARI- Nirbheek chickens under tropical environments. CARI-Nirbheek is an improved indigenous dual-purpose c...

Pedigreed features of the intestinal microbiota of sheep and its relationship with greenhouse gas emissions and the metabolic profile of blood

In order to identify the pedigreed features of the intestinal microbiota of Dorper and Romanovskaya sheep, which determine the release of greenhouse gases and the metabolic profile of blood in the Moscow region in 2025, an experiment was conducted on adult sheep of the Dorper (n=10) and Romanovskaya (n=10) breeds. Th...
