Abstract
Some active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are known to show extremely asymmetric broad Balmer lines, with their main peak redshifted or blueshifted by thousands of km s -1 , severely challenging our understanding of the standard AGN paradigm.
We wanted to explore the causes of such asymmetric features by carrying out a spectropolarimetric study of a sample of bright AGNs with known extreme Balmer line profiles.
We present optical spectropolarimetry of seven bright (V łe 17.5) Seyfert-1 galaxies obtained with the Very Large Telescope (VLT) FOcal Reducer/low dispersion Spectrograph 2 (FORS2) instrument from March 2012 to January 2013. The main broad Balmer lines (Hα and Hβ, and Hγ occasionally) were sampled with a resolving power ranging from 350 to 500. We performed a detailed spectral decomposition of each Hα profile to isolate kinematic substructures within the broad line region (BLR) and measured the polarization degree and angle of each component, providing constraints on the inner geometry and scattering properties.
The broad Hα components exhibit various scattering geometries. Their polarization as a function of full width at half maximum (FWHM) reveals two distinct behaviors, corresponding to either a BLR of roughly constant scale height or a stratified structure with decreasing height at higher velocities. This supports a disk-wind geometry linking equatorial and polar regions.
Dwarf galaxies, in the ΛCDM framework, are expected to dominate the galaxy number density at all redshifts. As such, studying active galactic nuclei (AGN) in these systems, including characterizing their local environments and emission properties, is essential in obtaining a comprehensive view of the AGN population and...

We analyze archival high-spectral-resolution ESPaDOnS spectropolarimetric observations (R = λ/Δλ = 68000) of three targeted locations within the filamentary nebula surrounding NGC 1275. We present here the analysis of the main filaments' emission lines, namely, [N ii]λ6584, Hα, and [N ii]λ6548, across our three pointin...

We investigate how star formation and active galactic nuclei (AGNs) shape the ionized and neutral interstellar medium in 67 nearby luminous and ultraluminous infrared galaxies from the Great Observatories All-sky LIRG Survey (GOALS). Combining mid-infrared (MIR) spectral mapping from the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph w...

Context.
Luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) represent a key phase of galaxy evolution that is characterized by intense star formation, frequent mergers, and in some cases significant active galactic nucleus (AGN) activity. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and far-infrared (FIR) cooling lines provide powerful...

We present a spectral analysis of a large sample of low-redshift type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) selected from the first data release of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI DR1). For objects at $z\le0.9$, we perform spectral fitting and ML-assisted refinement, yielding 114,754 type 1 AGNs. We use two fi...
