In this paper we focus on the stability of positive semidefinite matrix sensing maps $\Phi_{\mathcal{A}}(X)=(\langle A_i,X\rangle)_{i=1}^m$ where $A_i\succeq 0$, $X\succeq0$ and $\operatorname{rank}(X)\le r$. We introduce the bi-Lipschitz constants of $\Phi_{\mathcal{A}}(X)$ and define the global condition numbers as the ratio of upper and lower Lipschitz constants. We give deterministic universal lower bounds for these condition numbers, that depend only on the rank $r$ and on the underlying field. We then investigate the random rank-one Gaussian measurements and show that our lower bounds on condition numbers are asymptotically sharp, and therefore the random rank-one Gaussian measurements are asymptotically optimal. As an application, we derive the stability guarantees for an $\ell_1$-residual PhaseLift-type estimator at the optimal sampling scale.
For the $n\times n$ lower-triangular all-ones matrix $Q$, we prove a near-optimal lower bound \[ \gamma_{2,1}(Q) := \inf_{Q=AB} \|A\|_{2\to\infty}\|B\|_{1\to1} = \Omega\!\left( \frac{\log^{3/2}n}{(\log\log n)^{3/2}} \right), \] where the infimum ranges over real factorizations of arbitrary finite inner dimension. This...

We consider the probability that a discrete random matrix $M_n(\xi)$ is \emph{strongly non-singular}, meaning all its leading principal submatrices are non-singular. This property is equivalent to the existence of an LU factorization. We show that for any discrete random variable $\xi$ with finite support and $|\xi|_\i...

Let $W=n^{-1/2}\sum_{i=1}^n X_i$, where the $X_i$ are independent centered random vectors in ${\mathbb R}^p$ with $|X_{ij}|\le B$ almost surely. Suppose that $\text{Cov}(W)$ has unit diagonal and smallest eigenvalue at least $b^2>0$. We prove that the distance between $W$ and a Gaussian vector with the same covariance,...
Let $A=(\xi_{ij})$ be an $n\times n$ random matrix with independent, not necessarily identically distributed, real entries satisfying \[ \mathbb E\xi_{ij}=0,\qquad \mathbb E\xi_{ij}^{2}=1,\qquad \sup_{z\in\mathbb R}\mathbb P(|\xi_{ij}-z|0$ and $b\in(0,1)$. We prove that, for every $\delta\in(0,1)$, there are constants...

We prove quantitative lower bounds on the semidefinite extension complexity of the set of separable quantum states on $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$. We consider semidefinite programs (SDPs) that approximate the maximum acceptance probability of a measurement over separable states, the optimization problem underlyin...

We prove a sharp concentration inequality for the spectral norm of sparse random tensors with independent Bernoulli entries. Let $T$ be an order-$k$ tensor of dimension $n\times\cdots\times n$ with independent Bernoulli$(p)$ entries, where $k$ is fixed. For any $c,r>0$, we show that $\|T-\mathbb E T\|\le C_{k,r,c}\sqrt...
