An integrative taxonomic reassessment of Dryadaula Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Dryadaulidae) from Japan, with three new records and a redescription of Dryadaula trapezoides (Meyrick)

Abstract

Three species of Dryadaula (Lepidoptera: Dryadaulidae): D. angustivalva Lee, Hoare & Yang, 2023; D. caucasica (Zagulajev, 1970); and D. multifurcata Gaedike, 2000 are recorded from Japan for the first time. In addition, Dryadaula trapezoides (Meyrick, 1935) is redescribed in detail based on newly collected specimens from the type locality. The adults, wing venation, and genitalia of the four species are illustrated, and the genitalia of D. trapezoides from the type locality are shown for the first time. DNA barcodes of the four species and biological information on D. trapezoides are provided, and a neighbor-joining analysis of the examined taxa is conducted based on mitochondrial COI barcode sequences.
