Abstract
Although compounding has been widely examined within linguistic research, a systematic overview of its semantic research landscape remains underdeveloped. This study addresses this gap by offering a scientometric mapping of trends and thematic orientations in semantic research on compounding. Drawing on a corpus of 376 publications indexed in the Scopus database between 2014 and 2024, the analysis adopts a quantitative approach and employs VOSviewer to examine publication patterns, thematic structures, and research trajectories. The findings point to a steadily expanding field, with an average annual increase of approximately three publications and an overall growth of 187.5% across the eleven-year period. Reading and Writing, Cognition, and Mental Lexicon emerge as the most prominent publication venues. Thematic analysis identified three principal clusters: (a) “Compounding Formation and Description†(40.71%), encompassing terms such as “affixation,†“morphology,†“neologism,†and “word formation process,†(b) “Cognitive and Developmental Aspects of Compounding†(20.09%), characterized by keywords including “morphological awareness,†“comprehension,†“development,†and “student.â€, and (c) “Semantic Interpretation and Theoretical Frameworks†(29.20%), which includes terms such as “word meaning,†“semantic composition,†“syntax,†and “theory.†Taken together, these findings offer insights into the current state and trajectory of compounding research in the light of semantics, highlighting key themes within the current patterns of advancement.
Linguistic typology seeks to describe the structural diversity of the world's languages and to explain the recurrent patterns, or universals, that constrain this diversity. A central but often under-examined concept within this enterprise is metacoding: the principled allocation of formal marking resources, such as case, agreement, and word order, across grammatical relations and semantic or pragmatic categories according to markedness, economy, and iconic motivation. This review synthesises recent typological scholarship on metacoding and its bearing on syntactic structure across languages, drawing on comparative concepts, differential argument marking, alignment typology, morphological complexity trade-offs, and the growing role of large-scale computational databases in typological inference. The review traces how metacoding principles account for asymmetries in the marking of subjects and objects, for the distribution of ergative and accusative alignment, and for the coevolution of nominal and verbal grammatical marking. It further considers how phylogenetic and areal methods have reshaped debates about whether word-order correlations reflect cognitive universals or lineage-specific historical accidents, and how the loss of linguistic diversity through language endangerment threatens the empirical base on which such debates depend. Methodological issues concerning sampling, representativeness, and the comparability of descriptive categories across languages receive particular attention, since these issues bear directly on the reliability of typological generalisations. The review concludes that metacoding offers a unifying, functionally motivated account of why languages allocate overt marking unevenly across categories, while cautioning that the evidential basis for many typological universals remains uneven across language families and geographical regions. Future research directions, together with the principal limitations of the current evidence base, are outlined.

This diachronic study analyzes 6,959 research article titles from over 80 high-impact psychology journals across five decades (1975–2024). By integrating five dimensions—length, informativity, lexical diversity, syntactic structure, and semantic information—it traces the linguistic maturation of psychophysiology and experimental psychology. Results reveal a statistically significant increase in mean title length (11.55 to 14.93 words) and a modest rise in informativity, while lexical diversity remained remarkably stable (≈95%). Compound titles maintained dominance (65.71%), but full-sentence constructions and conclusion-signaling content grew steadily, reflecting a shift toward more explicit result-oriented communication. These patterns underscore the field’s adaptation to digital indexing demands and publication pressures, moving decisively beyond traditional brevity guidelines. By establishing clear decade-level baselines, this investigation provides a robust empirical foundation for evaluating the future impact of generative AI on scholarly communication.

Besides, a diachronic keyword analysis also demonstrates growing interest in topics such as new types of speech acts (e.g., self-denigration and self-praise), pragmatic competence, and subfields like historical, diachronic, and variational pragmatics. The study concludes by urging richer linguistic diversity, multimodal annotation and deeper integration of emerging technologies to propel the field forward. Overall, the study provides a comprehensive overview of the field’s evolution and offers valuable insights for future research in corpus pragmatics.

This study aims to demonstrate, through a practical approach, how variant readings (qirāʾāt) influence the semantic structure of the Qur’anic text. Its primary objective is to examine the semantic effects of variant readings—such as narrowing, expansion, or shifts in meaning—frequently discussed in classical tafsīr literature, and to assess whether the relationship between qirāʾāt and semantics can provide an interdisciplinary framework for Qur’anic interpretation. The study adopts a qualitative method based on documentation and comparative document analysis. Classical and modern works on tafsīr and semantics, together with authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) qirāʾāt traditions, constitute the main sources. The selected verses are analyzed through synchronic and diachronic semantics, information structure, pragmatics, and compositional analysis. The findings reveal no contradiction (tanāquḍ) among the different modes (wujūh) of qirāʾāt that would disrupt meaning. Rather, these readings remain within the limits of the wording (lafẓ) and enrich the text through variation of diversity (ikhtilāf al-tanawwuʿ). They also clarify the jurisprudential, theological, ethical, and psychological dimensions of the verses. Integrating ʿilm al-qirāʾāt, which preserves the transmitted wording of revelation, with semantics, which uncovers the text’s layers of meaning, offers theoretical and practical coherence for understanding the Qur’an’s inimitability (iʿjāz) and universal message.
This study aims to develop an integrative computational-analytical framework for explaining the functional evolution of large language models through four interrelated dimensions: Reasoning, Retrieval and Knowledge Grounding, Alignment, and Judging, collectively represented by the RRAJ framework. The study adopts a systematic analytical literature review of research published between 2020 and 2026, drawing on Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore, and applying comparative and thematic analysis to trace major technical transformations and functional relationships across the four dimensions. The findings indicate that the evolution of large language models is no longer driven primarily by model scaling, but increasingly by system scaling, in which knowledge, computation, and control are distributed across model parameters, contextual information, external knowledge sources, inference-time computation, and evaluation mechanisms. The analysis further reveals a shift from isolated capabilities toward functional convergence among RRAJ components, with LLM-as-a-Judge emerging as an important transition that enables evaluation to support diagnosis, feedback, and correction. The study concludes that future LLM systems are likely to become more adaptive, verifiable, self-evaluating, and self-correcting. It further recommends improving judge reliability, error traceability, and human oversight in high-risk applications, while exploring judge-governed execution as a future extension for agentic and robotic systems.
