Abstract

Background

Nanofat transfer is a mechanically emulsified, cell-based autologous fat product used to improve facial skin quality through the paracrine activity of adipose-derived stem cells and growth factors.

Objective

To provide dermatologic surgeons with a practical, step-by-step review of nanofat harvesting, processing, emulsification, and delivery technique for facial rejuvenation, along with a summary of the supporting clinical evidence and safety profile.

Materials And Methods

This review describes established supplies, donor-site harvesting technique, washing and purification options (gravity decantation, cotton gauze rolling, centrifugation, and closed washing/filtration systems), mechanical emulsification, and dermal delivery technique, synthesized from the published nanofat literature.

Results

Across the reviewed literature, nanofat improves dermal thickness, collagen density, hydration, and fine rhytides, with an established role in scar treatment and emerging applications in androgenetic alopecia, wound healing, and pigmentary conditions. Reported adverse events are mild and self-limited, and the technique carries a favorable overall safety profile.

Conclusion

Nanofat transfer is a simple, in-office, autologous technique that offers dermatologic surgeons a versatile option for facial skin rejuvenation when attention is paid to gentle harvesting, appropriate processing, thorough emulsification, and precise delivery.
