Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using local microorganisms on the crude protein content, crude fiber content, and concentrations of VFA and NH3 in vitro digestion of kume grass. The method used in this study was an experimental design using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. The treatment combinations were as follows: P0: kume grass straw with the addition of 10 liters of rice husk ash filtrate (FSAP) solution; P1: P0 + 40 ml of local microorganisms, P2: P0 + 80 ml of local microorganisms, P3: P0 + 120 ml of local microorganisms. The measured variables were crude protein content, crude fiber, and in vitro VFA and NH3 concentrations. The research data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The results showed the following crude protein content: P0: 10.311%; P1: 10.952%; P2: 12.823%; P3: 12.632%. Crude fiber: P0: 37.856%; P1: 37.806%; P2: 35.263%; P3: 34.508%. VFA concentration: P0: 79.758 mM; P1:98.277 mM; P2: 117.738 mM; P3: 99.236 mM. NH₃ concentration, P0: 3.258 mM; P1: 5.078 mM; P2: 6.101 mM; P3: 5.967 mM. The use of local microorganisms in the production of kume grass silage can increase crude protein, VFA, and NH₃ content in vitro, while crude fiber content decreases. It was concluded that the use of Local Microorganisms (MOL) significantly improved the nutritional quality and in vitro fermentability of kume grass silage. A dose of 80 ml was found to be optimal, as it increased crude protein content, reduced crude fiber, and produced rumen fermentation products (in vitro)—specifically VFA and NH3—that were optimal and well-balanced for the nutritional needs of ruminants.
