Abstract
Spatial understanding is essential for robots to perceive their surrounding environments and execute actions. Existing approaches typically encode 3D awareness into vision-language-action (VLA) models by directly aligning their representations with pre-trained 3D foundation models. However, we observe that such direct geometric feature alignment essentially exploits 3D foundation priors as a form of low-rank regularization in the feature space, resulting in severe rank collapse of the pre-trained VLA representations. In contrast, we shift the focus from enforcing point-wise equality to aligning pair-wise relationships. We propose a representation-alignment method that enables the injection of 3D spatial awareness without compromising the model's original expressivity. Extensive experiments on public benchmarks, our new spatial reasoning benchmark, and real-world manipulation scenarios demonstrate that our approach effectively incorporates 3D spatial representations into VLA reasoning, achieving robust performance and enhanced spatial awareness across diverse manipulation tasks.
Vision-language models still struggle to understand 3D spatial relations across views and update spatial judgments as the observer moves. A common approach fuses 3D reconstruction features into visual tokens, but aligning these features with pretrained semantic representations remains challenging under limited spatial...

This work proposes SAVLA, an end-to-end symmetry-aware VLA model for robust and data-efficient policy learning, which keeps the pretrained vision-language backbone entirely frozen while combining it with an equivariant flow-matching action head and a learned canonicalizer.
This work proposes \textbf{novel-view semantic rendering} as an auxiliary training task that requires the model to predict the semantic layout of an unobserved viewpoint, inspired by humans'ability to mentally simulate novel viewpoints during spatial reasoning.

Vision-language-action models benefit from the understanding and reasoning capabilities of pretrained vision-language models, but action-only supervision provides limited grounding in world dynamics. Conversely, world-action models inherit spatiotemporal priors from video generation models, yet remain limited in semant...

This work proposes FOCAL-VLA, a framework that combines subtask-guided geometry distillation with implicit world modeling to learn representations of current spatial structure and future interaction dynamics, and shows that FOCAL-VLA outperforms baselines on both simulation benchmarks and real-world manipulation tasks.
Spatial intelligence requires maintaining a coherent understanding of the world as the embodied agent moves. Like humans, the agent must use its own motion to interpret changes across observations and update object locations and spatial relations accordingly. Despite spatial post-training having substantially broadened...
