Electrochemical evaluation of the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors using Tafel method analysis at various inhibitor concentrations
Abstract
This article analyzes the electrochemical corrosion behavior of three metal samples; stainless steel, carbon steel, and welded joints on carbon steel in acidic environment. PARASTAT 4000+ potentiostat with Versa Studio software was used for analysis. Two inhibitors, Inhibitor A, based on sodium nitrite, and Inhibitor B, based on colloidal carbon., were evaluated with different concentrations (10 ml, 20 ml, 30 ml, and 40 ml) mixed with different electrolyte concentrations (3, 10 and 15% (wt./vol)) of citric acid (C6H8O7); this solution demonstrates acidic environment. Results showed that the corrosion rate is highly dependent on the type of inhibitor, its concentration, and the aggressiveness of the electrolyte. Overall, the study highlights the important role of optimized inhibitor selection for effective corrosion protection in acidic conditions.
