Abstract
We present a fully operational near-ambient pressure angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (NAP-ARPES) setup for operando studies of surface band structures under gas exposure at the TEMPO beamline of Synchrotron SOLEIL. The system integrates a SPECS PHOIBOS 150 NAP analyzer with multi-stage differential pumping and precise sample manipulation, enabling momentum-resolved electronic structure measurements under conditions approaching realistic environments. Commissioning experiments on graphite, ZnO(10-10), Cu(111), and Ru(0001) demonstrate operando capabilities, including reversible hydrogenation and adsorbate-induced modifications to the band structure. By bridging the gap between conventional UHV ARPES and operando surface science, this development provides a robust platform for investigating catalytic surfaces, energy conversion materials, and reactive interfaces under near-ambient conditions.
With the rapid development of catalytic science, research has shifted from empirical exploration toward a mechanistic understanding of catalytic processes. In this context, probing surface chemical properties under realistic reaction conditions is essential for uncovering reaction mechanisms and guiding the development...

Resonant photoelectron spectroscopy (RPES) combines element- and orbital-selective enhancement of valence electronic states, providing a powerful approach to probe the electronic structure of catalytic materials under operation. Despite this potential, its broader adoption beyond model surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV...

Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) requires a well-ordered surface, whose quality is routinely judged from low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). We compare LEED, XPS, and ARPES of a Cu(001) single crystal measured in situ at four stages of surface preparation:...

This work investigates extreme ultraviolet (EUV)-induced photoemission in materials relevant for EUV lithography, combining synchrotron-based X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS and ARPES) measurements with Monte Carlo photoemission modeling. Gold (Au) is used as a reference material to benchmark the model, while rut...

Uranium-based materials are used primarily in nuclear technologies and are also of fundamental interest due to the dual itinerant-localized nature of their 5f electrons, which gives rise to correlated electronic states such as heavy fermion behavior, unconventional superconductivity, and band-inversion-driven electroni...

A high-resolution soft X-ray beamline is being developed at the Hefei Advanced Light Facility for in situ and operando spectroscopy and scattering studies of energy and catalytic materials. The beamline covers an energy range of 180–3500 eV and features a dual-branch parallel configuration. It is designed to provide...
