TL;DR
Although CDA is associated with lower rates of adjacent-segment pathology compared with ACDF, the absolute risk reduction at longer follow-up is modest and methodological heterogeneity across trials limits definitive conclusions.
Abstract
➢ Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) provides clinical outcomes comparable with those of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) for 1-level and 2-level cervical degenerative disc disease (DDD), with durable long-term motion preservation.➢ Although CDA is associated with lower rates of adjacent-segment pathology compared with ACDF, the absolute risk reduction at longer follow-up is modest and methodological heterogeneity across trials limits definitive conclusions.➢ Expanded indications including multilevel (≥3-level) CDA, hybrid constructs, and other situations that were previously considered contraindicated during U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) trials have shown promising short-term to intermediate-term results in more recent studies.➢ As CDA utilization increases, standardized failure reporting and the development of evidence-based revision algorithms are critical to optimize long-term outcomes.
OBJECTIVE
Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) plays a pivotal role in preserving segmental motion at the index level to mitigate adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) and maintain neck mobility. The long-term results of US Investigational Device Exemption trials spanning a decade have consistently shown positive clinical ou...

STUDY DESIGN
Clinical original research.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this study were to identify the risk factors and incidence of anterior bone loss (ABL) after 2-level Baguera C cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA), as well as the impact of hybrid surgery on ABL.
BACKGROUND
ABL commonly occurs after CDA. Despite rec...
STUDY DESIGN
Retrospective cohort study.
OBJECTIVE
To compare anterior cervical disc replacement (ACDR) and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in smokers and nonsmokers.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA
Smoking is a well-established risk factor after fusion-based spine surgery, whereas ACDR does not depend on...

Anonymous, survey-based study.
OBJECTIVE
The primary objective of this study is to understand and assess the factors influencing the choice of cervical fusion, disc arthroplasty, and hybrid procedures for radiculopathy in the setting of 2-level cervical degenerative pathology.
