Abstract
Warm rain is plagued by a longstanding droplet growth bottleneck, one that turbulence may alleviate by enhancing droplet coalescence in the late condensation phase. Nevertheless, empirical observational support from multiple sites remains scarce. Here, we combine collocated nationwide millimeter cloud radars, radar wind profilers, Himawari‐8/9 satellite cloud‐top temperature retrievals, and surface gauges to compile 819 warm rain events over China during the warm seasons of 2024–2025. During the 2 hr preceding rainfall, reflectivity and turbulent dissipation rate (ε) increase simultaneously within mid‐to‐low cloud layers. Cloud reflectivity is found to positively correlate with log10ε ${\log }_{10}\,\varepsilon $ throughout the pre‐rain period, with maximum spatial coherence and statistically significant correlation coefficients occurring 48–18 min before rainfall onset. This pre‐onset window provides multi‐site observational evidence for coordinated turbulence–reflectivity evolution, consistent with the conceptual framework that lower troposphere turbulence modulates warm rain microphysical processes and advances rainfall onset.
Despite years of research, the processes controlling warm-rain formation remain uncertain. Leveraging multiple years of observations collected across four oceanic regions, we systematically reassess the properties of precipitation just beneath cloud base. The observations show that warm-rain characteristics are remarka...

Radar data assimilation (DA) alone remains insufficient for precipitation forecasts due to the lack of thermodynamic information in the pre‐storm environment. This study investigates the assimilation of dense automatic weather station (AWS) observations from China's mesoscale network alongside radar during an extreme r...

Recent work has demonstrated that convection‐permitting models often produce a greater number of precipitating convective cells compared to radar observations. Congestus‐depth cells contribute most to the bias, which are colloquially termed “popcorn convection.” This study explores warm‐phase microphysical contribution...

Extensive, coherent circulations in the marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL) are detected and classified using an automated image processing routine applied to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images from Sentinel‐1 over subtropical oceans at sunrise and sunset. Circulations are inferred from patterns of capillary...
