Altermagnets combine vanishing net magnetization with momentum-dependent, nonrelativistic spin splitting, offering functionalities attractive for spintronics and quantum devices. Their practical use, however, is constrained by the limited availability of materials that simultaneously possess the required altermagnetic symmetry, semiconducting electronic structure, and weak spin-orbit coupling. Here we show that these requirements can instead be separated between constituent materials through proximity engineering. We develop an analytical theory for a conventional semiconductor coupled to a gapped $d$-wave altermagnet and demonstrate that virtual tunneling transfers the altermagnetic spin splitting to the semiconductor. Crucially, the induced nonrelativistic and relativistic spin splittings exhibit qualitatively different dependences on band alignment. Virtual processes involving the valence and conduction bands of the altermagnet can reinforce the altermagnetic splitting while contributing with opposite signs to the interfacial Rashba coupling. Consequently, electrostatic tuning can access a regime in which the Rashba splitting vanishes while a sizable $d$-wave spin splitting persists. Exact diagonalization of the full heterostructure model confirms the analytical theory and establishes the robustness of this mechanism beyond the perturbative regime. Our results identify altermagnetic proximity as a route for engineering nonrelativistic spin-split electronic states in established semiconductor platforms, providing a general strategy for disentangling magnetic and relativistic spin interactions in quantum heterostructures.
Altermagnets combine vanishing net magnetization with a momentum-dependent spin-split electronic structure, providing a route to spin-polarized carriers without ferromagnetism. Here, we investigate how electronic correlations, doping, uniaxial strain, and interlayer coupling control altermagnetism within a minimal Hubb...

Altermagnets (AMs) exhibit momentum-dependent spin splitting without net magnetization, making them promising platforms for spintronic applications. While the symmetry and multipolar origins of nonrelativistic altermagnetic spin splitting (NRASS) are well established, the role of electronic correlations and spin-lattic...
Altermagnets offer a promising route to spintronic devices by combining spin-split electronic states with zero net magnetization, but how reduced dimensionality reshapes their magnetic order remains poorly understood. Here, we grow bilayer-thickness CrSb (0001) films directly on SrTiO3(001) substrates by molecular beam...

Magnetism provides a fertile platform for discovering emergent quantum phenomena governed by symmetry. Recent developments of spin-space-group (SSG) theory have revealed altermagnets as a distinct class of nonrelativistic collinear magnets with unconventional spin-dependent electronic structures. Here, we demonstrate t...

Altermagnets are collinear magnets with zero net magnetization and spin-split electronic bands. Here, we explore whether altermagnetism can exhibit a discontinuous jump, a phenomenon we refer to as meta-altermagnetism. We show that meta-altermagnetism can emerge in 2D systems when magnetic-order-induced band reconstruc...
