Persian version of Animated Activity Questionnaire: assessment of reliability, validity, and responsiveness in individuals with knee osteoarthritis.
Abstract
Purpose
This study evaluated the reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the Persian version of the Animated Activity Questionnaire (P-AAQ) among individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA).
Method
To assess reliability, a subset of participants completed the P-AAQ twice. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha. Convergent validity was assessed by comparing P-AAQ scores with the Physical Component Summary of the 12-Item Short Form Survey (SF-12 PCS), the Activities of Daily Living subscale of the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score- (KOOS-ADL), the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, and the Stair Climbing Test (SCT). Discriminant validity was evaluated by comparing KOA individuals to a control group. Responsiveness was measured after one month of orthotic intervention.
Results
The P-AAQ demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability (ICC2,1 = 0.99) and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.90). Strong correlations were found between P-AAQ and KOOS-ADL (r = 0.78) and SF-12 PCS (r = 0.79). The P-AAQ effectively differentiated between KOA and healthy individuals (p < 0.001), except for the "Taking off shoe" item. After four weeks of orthotic intervention, pain scores decreased (p < 0.001), while P-AAQ scores increased (p < 0.001), suggesting that P-AAQ was responsive to change.
Conclusion
The P-AAQ effectively assesses activity limitations in individuals with KOA, demonstrating strong validity, reliability, and responsiveness.
