Hydrazones as Organometallic Equivalents in Cross-coupling Reactions

Jul 2026 · Synthesis · 0 citations

Abstract

Hydrazones as Organo-Metallic Equivalents (HOME) chemistry, wherein through hydrazine-mediated umpolung activation, abundant oxygenated hydroxyl and carbonyl feedstocks function as organometallic equivalents in transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. This approach eliminates the need for preformed organometallic reagents, demonstrates broad functional-group tolerance, and produces benign nitrogen gas as a stoichiometric by-product. By improving operational simplicity, using renewable resources and, reducing waste, HOME chemistry provides a practical and more sustainable alternative to conventional cross-coupling methodologies.

Synthesis of Dihydroindolooxazines via a Redox-Neutral, Gold-Catalyzed Hydride-Transfer Process

Redox-neutral gold-mediated processes are particularly valuable for C–H bond functionalization. When these transformations proceed stepwise via intramolecular hydride transfer to an electrophilic gold(I) center, their efficiency critically depends on the nature of the hydride donor. We report herein that, in contrast...

Photochemical Aldehyde-Olefin Coupling via In Situ Activation of α-Benzoyloxy Chlorides.

While ketyl radicals enable powerful umpolung C(sp3)-C(sp3) couplings, their generation from aliphatic aldehydes typically requires metal reductants or precious-metal catalysts. Herein, we report a practical photochemical protocol for one-pot aldehyde-olefin cross-coupling. This method leverages the in situ formation o...

Copper-Catalyzed Cross Coupling of Glycosylthio/Seleno Sulfonates and Alkynes

A copper-catalyzed coupling method between glycosyl thio/selenosulfonates and alkynes has been developed. This approach features mild reaction conditions, operational simplicity, and good compatibility, enabling efficient access to a wide range of structurally diverse glycosyl alkynyl thio/selenoethers. Furthermore, th...

Anodic Enantioselective Allylic Esterification of Alkenes

Asymmetric allylic redox functionalization of alkenes provides a direct approach to chiral carbon frameworks in which the need for separate stereochemical or oxidation state adjustments in the substrates is obviated. So far, such methods have been predominantly focusing on the use of noble-metal catalysts and/or wast...

Metallaphotoredox-Catalyzed Chloroacylation of Alkynes with Acyl Chlorides as Bifunctional Reagents

A photoredox/nickel-catalyzed chloroacylation of alkynes with acyl chlorides is described. Acyl chlorides serve as bifunctional reagents to install acyl and chlorine groups across terminal and selected internal alkynes, affording synthetically useful βchloroenones in moderate to good yields. The vinyl chloride motif en...

Diboron-Enabled Nickel-Catalyzed Intermolecular Reductive Coupling of Styrenes With Aldehydes.

The direct reductive coupling of alkenes with aldehydes offers an attractive alternative to conventional carbonyl addition using preformed organometallic reagents, yet intermolecular coupling of simple alkenes remains challenging. In this study, we report a diboron-enabled nickel-catalyzed reductive coupling of styrene...
