Infiltrating Metal Adhesive Layer for Mechanically Integrated Dry Electrodes

Oct 2026 · Advanced Energy Materials · 0 citations · 27 references

Abstract

Dry‐processed high‐loading electrodes are essential for developing high‐energy‐density lithium‐ion batteries through solvent‐free manufacturing. However, most studies focus on material and structure of dry films, while adhesive layer required to laminate PTFE‐based dry films, which exhibit inherently low adhesion, to current collectors is typically fabricated using a wet‐process. Here, we introduce a sputter‐coated indium metal adhesive layer that enables an all‐solvent‐free dry electrode manufacturing process. During lamination, the indium layer infiltrates pores of graphite dry film and mechanically entangles with PTFE fibril, which strengthens interfacial contact between dry film and current collector. This electrode shows excellent capacity retention of 91.3% after 150 cycles at 0.33 C in half‐cells, while NCM622||graphite pouch‐cells (∼8 mAh cm −2 ) exhibit stable cycling for 150 cycles without delamination and dendrite growth. These results provide insights into infiltrating metal‐based adhesive layers for improving mechanical integrity and cycling stability of high‐loading dry electrodes.

Synergistic Mechano‐Fluidic Self‐Fusion of Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)‐Modified Liquid‐Metal Particles for Post‐Treatment‐Free Soft Electronics

ABSTRACT Liquid metals (LMs) are promising candidates for soft and stretchable conductors; however, their high surface tension and poor wettability pose significant challenges for high‐resolution printing. To address these limitations, LMs are commonly processed into liquid metal particles (LMPs), which improve printab...

Chloride‐Mediated Activation of Aluminum‐Alloyed Liquid Metal Anodes for Stretchable Asymmetric Energy Storage

Gallium‐based liquid metals are attractive anodes for stretchable energy storage because they operate dendrite‐free, yet their bulk faradaic capacity remains locked behind a native oxide shell that conventional electrolytes cannot remove. Here, this passivation problem is resolved through the co‐design of an alumin...

Sandwich‐Like Silicone Rubber Composites With Oriented Thermal Conductive Pathways and Flexible Surface Layers for High‐Performance Thermal Management

Thermal interface materials (TIMs) require both efficient through‐plane heat conduction and low thermal contact resistance at rough interfaces. Herein, a sandwich‐like silicone rubber composite was developed to simultaneously enhance bulk heat transport and interfacial contact. The middle layer contains an oriented...

Defect‐Free Transfer Principles for Scalable, Thin Garnet‐Based Hybrid Solid Electrolytes in Solid‐State Batteries

The scalable fabrication of thin, uniform, and defect‐free hybrid solid electrolytes (HSEs) remains a critical challenge for solid‐state batteries due to the lack of quantitative design principles governing interfacial interactions during coating, transfer, and impregnation. Here, we establish thermodynamic criteri...
