Abstract

This article presents a continuous control set model predictive control (CCS-MPC) strategy for a dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (DTP-PMSM) with the objective of minimizing harmonic subspace currents while simultaneously satisfying the electromagnetic torque demand. The proposed method employs a sequential control scheme for the fundamental and harmonic subspaces, which eliminates the need for complex weighting-factor tuning required in conventional MPC approaches. The sequential control is implemented by solving two independent optimization problems, each defined with distinct control objectives for the respective subspaces. Furthermore, the computational burden is significantly reduced by considering only the three outermost voltage vectors closest to the reference voltage vector. The use of outermost voltage vectors also ensures improved DC-link voltage utilization, which enhances harmonic suppression capability, particularly at high speeds and during transient conditions. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is validated through the MATLAB/Simulink environment, demonstrating its capability to achieve the desired control objectives.
