Abstract

NbC was prepared from pure niobium powder and commercially available graphene by mechanical alloying (MA) for 4h at 400 rpm in a planetary ball mill. Then, composite mixtures of gas-atomized CoCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy and 5, 10, and 15 wt.% of NbC powders were prepared in the same mill by mechanical milling (MM) at 100 rpm for 30 minutes. The microstructure, phase composition, and mechanical properties of compacts spark plasma sintered for 10 minutes at 1000 °C and 80 MPa were studied. The highest values of 204 ± 5 HV 30, and the best tribological properties were obtained for 15 wt.% of NbC. On the other hand, the compressive yield stress remained unaffected by the NbC addition in the range of statistical deviation. The wear resistance of composite materials improved significantly with increasing NbC content.
