Rapid Microwave‐Assisted Formation of Trimetallic NiCoCu‐MOFs Based Composites With Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes and Reduced Graphene Oxide for High Performance Hybrid Supercapacitors
Abstract
The production of highly efficient energy storage systems is important in addressing the rising demand for effective and sustainable energy. Traditional batteries offer high energy density and have capacity loss at each cycle of operation. On the other hand, capacitors are good at producing high power, but their energy storage capabilities are low, limiting their use over an extended period. Owing to these drawbacks, the recent development of supercapacitors is a promising group of devices, which provides both high energy density and power delivery. In this study, a metal‐organic framework (MOF) made of trimetallic NiCoCu was prepared through a quick microwave synthesis along with its composites with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Microwave synthesis was a rapid and efficient method, which gave a crystalline structure of the product. The electrochemical performance was evaluated based on cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The composite MOF/rGO had the highest specific capacitance of 886.6 F/g among all samples, and its hybrid device gave high energy density of 65.73 Wh/kg along with high power density of 850 W/kg at 1.0 A/g. These results indicate that the use of the microwave‐assisted methodology would be an effective strategy to prepare trimetallic MOF‐based electrodes with enhanced electrochemical characteristics, which will be applied to high‐performance supercapacitors.
