Self-Powered Modular Battery Inverter Cell Based on Configurable Mixed-Signal ICs
Abstract
The transition to decentralized renewable energy requires advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with precise management. While Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) converters offer flexibility for power flow and State of Charge (SoC) balancing, high cell-level complexity hinder their adoption. This paper proposes a hardware-consolidated battery level CHB inverter using the Renesas SLG47105 Configurable Mixed-Signal IC (CMIC). This single-chip solution integrates PWM synthesis, communication logic, and direct MOSFET gate driving. A key innovation is total power autonomy via an integrated Boost converter that elevates the battery voltage to 12V, eliminating external auxiliary power supplies. Experimental results validate the self-powering mechanism and switching transitions across charging, discharging, and bypass modes. This architecture reduces assembly cost and complexity, providing a scalable framework for distributed energy storage and multilevel voltage synthesis.
