Abstract

Satellite-terrestrial integrated networks with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) provide wide-area connectivity and sustainable service support, but they also face serious security challenges due to the broadcast nature of satellite links and the possibility that an energy receiver may act as potential eavesdropper. To address this issue, this paper proposes a secure precoding design for a high-altitude platform (HAP)-assisted rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) architecture under a quasi-static transmission model. Specifically, a cooperative direct and relay transmission (CDRT) framework is developed, in which the HAP assists the satellite transmission to improve the physical layer security for multi-user SWIPT services. By assuming the energy receiver near the target user as potential eavesdropper, we formulate a sum secrecy rate maximization problem subject to energy harvesting and transmit power constraints. To transform the original nonconvex optimization problem into a tractable convex problem, we employ techniques such as first-order Taylor expansion approximation, rank-one constraint relaxation, successive convex approximation, and semidefinite relaxation. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed CDRT-RSMA scheme significantly outperforms conventional non-orthogonal and time-division multiple access schemes in terms of security performance.

Secure Energy-Efficient Uplink Transmission in Movable-Element RIS-aided Systems with Movable Antennas and Artificial Noise

Secure energy efficiency (SEE) has emerged as a key performance metric for next-generation wireless networks, where energy sustainability and information security must be jointly guaranteed. This paper investigates secure uplink transmission in a full-duplex (FD) base station (BS) system equipped with movable antennas (MAs) and assisted by a movable-element reconfigurable intelligent surface (ME-RIS) in the presence of multiple cooperative passive eavesdroppers. The objective is to maximize SEE by jointly optimizing the users'transmit powers, BS receive postcoders, artificial noise (AN) transmit power and beamforming, RIS phase shifts, and the two-dimensional positions of both the BS antennas and RIS elements. The resulting optimization problem is highly nonconvex due to the fractional SEE objective, coupled secrecy-rate expressions, residual self-interference (SI), unit-modulus RIS phase-shift constraints, movable-position constraints, inter-element spacing requirements, and the nonlinear dependence of the channels on the movable antenna and RIS-element positions. To address these challenges, we propose a hybrid gradient-based meta-learning (H-GML) framework. In the proposed method, the BS receive postcoders and AN direction are updated using closed-form solutions derived from generalized Rayleigh quotient formulations, while the remaining coupled variables are updated by neural meta-optimizers that learn gradient-based update directions directly from the SEE optimization objective without requiring offline labeled training data. Simulation results show that the proposed H-GML design achieves better performance than the AO benchmark and significantly outperforms fixed-geometry, random RIS, no-AN, and no-Eve-knowledge baselines.

A Covert Precision Satellite Communication Framework Assisted by Cooperative IRSs

Satellite communication (SatCom), as an effective complement to terrestrial networks, has attracted considerable attention from both academia and industry owing to its wide coverage and high flexibility. However, the inherent openness of satellite links renders them highly vulnerable to eavesdropping, thereby posing significant security challenges. In this paper, we propose a satellite covert precision wireless communication (CPWC) system, where multiple intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) cooperate to assist satellite transmissions, ensuring that confidential information is delivered to legitimate users while remaining undetectable to wardens. To further enhance covertness, an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based random subcarrier selection (RSCS) method is developed to concentrate the signal energy at the intended receiver. Under a practical satellite-terrestrial channel model, we derive closed-form covertness constraints for the CPWC system based on relative entropy and detection error probability. Under the relative-entropy constraint and the satellite power constraint, we maximize the covert rate by an alternating-optimization (AO) based semidefinite relaxation (SDR) iterative algorithm and obtain a high-quality feasible solution. Using this solution as a warm start, we further impose the detection-error-probability constraint and refine the beamformer through a sequential quadratic programming (SQP) based algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed CPWC system, where the detection-error-probability-based scheme outperforms the second-order cone programming (SOCP) benchmark, the random-phase-shift design, the one-bit IRS quantized scheme, and the SDR baseline without precise communication (PC) in terms of covert rate.

Secure Wireless Information Transfer and Energy Harvesting in HAPS-Based Networks

High-altitude platform station (HAPS) serves as a promising enabler for wide-area connectivity of low-power wireless devices, particularly in remote and underserved regions. However, the strong line-of-sight characteristics of HAPS links increase the risk of eavesdropping, while the limited energy budget of ground devices remains a major operational constraint. In this work, we propose a secure wireless information and energy harvesting framework for HAPS-based networks in the presence of spatially distributed eavesdroppers. The proposed system integrates friendly jamming and power transfer nodes equipped with null-steering capability antennas, such that they not only degrade the reception quality at eavesdroppers but also act as additional radio-frequency energy sources for legitimate users. A time-switching wireless information and power transfer architecture is adopted at the user side. Under this framework, we derive tractable expressions for the joint rate-energy coverage and the average secrecy rate using stochastic geometry tools. Numerical and Monte Carlo results validate the developed analysis and reveal key design trade-offs among the time allocation factor, null-steering-zone radius around each user, and jammer transmit power. In particular, the results show that properly coordinated null-steering jamming can simultaneously support secure communication and adequate wireless power transfer, while an appropriate choice of system parameters, such as time allocation factor and jamming power, is required to balance harvested energy, communication reliability, and secrecy performance.

Energy-Efficient LEO Satellite-to-Terrestrial Communication via Pinching-Antenna Relay System

Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications face critical challenges in serving blocked users due to severe penetration loss and signal blockage. Conventional active relay solutions incur high energy consumption and hardware costs. This letter introduces a pinching-antenna relay system (PARS) for energy-efficient LEO satellite communication in blockage environments. By using dielectric waveguides with dynamically reconfigurable PAs, PARS provides flexible spatial diversity and beamforming gains with the circuit control and PA actuation power. We formulate an energy-efficiency (EE) maximization problem by jointly optimizing the satellite precoding and PA positions. A Dinkelbach-based block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm is proposed to solve the non-convex fractional program via iterative weighted minimum mean square error (WMMSE) transformation and projected gradient descent (PGD) updates. Simulations show that the proposed PARS achieves superior EE over direct transmission, fixed-PA, decode-and-forward (DF) and zero-forcing (ZF) baselines. The resulting performance crossover further identifies the PARS-dominant region, providing practical deployment guidance for blockage-affected scenarios.

Secrecy Performance of O-RAN-Enabled RIS-Assisted FSO/RF Satellite Downlinks

Motivated by the increasing security requirements of next-generation satellite-terrestrial communication systems and the emergence of Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) architectures, this paper presents a secrecy analysis of a novel reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted mixed free-space optical (FSO) and radio frequency (RF) satellite downlink transmission system within an O-RAN-enabled non-terrestrial network (NTN) framework. The inherent broadcast nature of RF transmissions presents significant eavesdropping risks, which serves as the primary impetus for this study. We analyze the combined effects of imperfect channel state information (CSI) and random link blockage within such integrated networks. The impact of discrete phase shift constraints at the RIS is also investigated. Closed-form expressions are derived for three key performance metrics: connection outage probability (COP), secrecy outage probability (SOP), and the probability of positive secrecy capacity (PPSC). Through high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) asymptotic analysis, corresponding asymptotic expressions are obtained, and all analytical results are validated via extensive Monte Carlo simulations. Our findings demonstrate that: (i) Link blockage probability and channel estimation accuracy jointly govern the secrecy performance floor. (ii) Increasing the number of RIS elements enhances physical-layer security by driving both the COP and SOP toward their theoretical lower bounds. (iii) Improving channel estimation accuracy diminishes the eavesdropper’s channel advantage and improves the overall system security. These results offer valuable insights for designing secure mixed FSO/RF satellite-terrestrial systems within O-RAN-enabled NTN architectures that effectively balance connectivity and confidentiality.

Beamforming Optimization for Integrated Sensing and Communication Systems Against Eavesdropping and Malicious Jamming

This paper investigates secure beamforming designs for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems, where a base station (BS) provides downlink and uplink communication services while performing target sensing, under both passive eavesdropping and active malicious jamming. To address these threats, a comprehensive secure design is developed for the full transceiver link. First, we formulate an optimization problem to maximize the system secrecy rate (SR) with the integrated sidelobe-to-mainlobe ratio (ISMR) constraint for sensing performance, via the joint design of transmit beamforming and artificial noise (AN) injection for downlink ISAC systems. The non-convex problem is efficiently solved using successive convex approximation (SCA) and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) techniques. Then, we develop a robust receive beamforming scheme based on the multi-output linearly constrained minimum variance (MO-LCMV) criterion and derive its closed-form optimal solution to achieve reliable reception of communication and sensing signals as well as effective jamming suppression for uplink ISAC systems. Finally, numerical results verify that the proposed designs outperform conventional benchmark schemes by achieving superior secrecy rate for downlink ISAC systems while ensuring sensing performance, and effective jamming suppression for uplink ISAC systems.
