Abstract

This paper evaluates the performance of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) technique within dense IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) network environments. As traditional CSMA/CA-based networks reach their scalability limits, this work investigates how OFDMA interacts with key MAC layer features, specifically frame aggregation (A-MPDU/A-MSDU) and Spatial Reuse (SR), using BSS Coloring and OBSS/PD thresholds. Through simulation-based analysis, the work demonstrates that OFDMA provides substantial scalability gains, with throughput improvements of up to 49% in Downlink (DL) and 70% in Uplink (UL), while effectively preventing delay escalation. However, the results also reveal that these benefits are highly sensitive to Resource Unit (RU) granularity and scheduler design. In scenarios with frame aggregation, legacy OFDM may still offer higher throughput, and the effectiveness of Spatial Reuse remains highly constrained in UL and DL-OFDMA due to protocol and power density limitations. The paper concludes that maximizing Wi-Fi 7 performance requires precise parameter tuning adjusted to specific traffic types, network topologies, and utilized mechanisms.

MLO–UORA and Traffic-to-Link Joint Optimization for IEEE 802.11bn Networks

Achieving efficient uplink access and a robust performance in dense Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) is a critical challenge for IEEE 802.11bn (Wi-Fi 8). While uplink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based random access (UORA) enables scalable random access, its performance is highly sensitive...

Aggregation-Aware Throughput Analysis for Heterogeneous IEEE 802.11 WLANs with MLO and BAW Constraints

This paper investigates the impact of aggregation dynamics on throughput performance in heterogeneous IEEE 802.11 WLANs under IAMLO(Immediate-Access Multi-Link Operation)-based access. Existing analytical models typically rely on the fixed aggregation assumption, which fails to capture the stochastic nature of A-MPDU a...

Collision-Isolated Asynchronous Access for High-Density IoT Networks

Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) such as LoRa commonly adopt unslotted ALOHA for its simplicity, but the resulting throughput ceiling (0.183 frames/frame-time) limits scalability. We propose a heterogeneous multi-channel collision resolution system that partitions $M$ channels into contention channels and dedicate...

Adaptive Access Control for UORA-Based IAMLO in Heterogeneous IEEE 802.11be Networks

This paper studies uplink random access in a heterogeneous dual-link IEEE 802.11be network, where single-link devices (SLDs) and multi-link devices (MLDs) coexist under uplink OFDMA random access (UORA) and immediate-access multi-link operation (IAMLO). Although IAMLO can improve throughput and protect the access oppor...
