TL;DR

Despite the substantial geographical distance between Mongolia and the ROK, these H6N1 isolates demonstrated close genetic connectivity within the Northeast Asian lineage, and their surface gene diversification was primarily shaped by antigenic drift alongside restricted regional intra- and inter-clade reassortment.

Molecular Surveillance and Partial Genetic Characterization of Low-Pathogenic Avian Influenza A Viruses in Migrating Birds from Ukraine

Wild migratory birds are the principal natural reservoir of influenza A viruses (IAVs) and play a central role in their evolution and global dissemination. Ukraine lies along the Black Sea–Mediterranean Flyway, making surveillance of avian influenza viruses in wild birds essential within a One Health framework, althoug...

Genetic characterization and zoonotic potential of G1-Lineage H9N2 avian influenza viruses isolated from poultry in Pakistan, 2023.

Findings underscore the need for continuous surveillance and risk assessment of H9N2 viruses circulating in Pakistan, and identify several mammalian-adaptive mutations identified in internal gene segments of the isolates suggesting a potential risk of cross-species transmission.

Genomic characterization of highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) clade 2.3.4.4b into wild seabirds from coastal Ecuador

Highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) clade 2.3.4.4b has spread widely across South America, but its genomic diversity and patterns of introduction into Ecuador remain poorly characterized. In this study, we report and characterize four genomes of A(H5N1) viruses detected in four individuals of two Ecu...

Genetic evolution, phylodynamics, geographic spread of H9N2 avian influenza viruses in China from 2014 to 2025: an increasing potential zoonotic risk

A large-scale sequence analysis of the genome of Chinese H9N2 viruses from 2014 to 2025 using public databases and laboratory isolates identified 52 different genotypes in 1,591 H9N2 viruses, including 4 previously recognized genotypes (G6, G57, G58, and G68) and 48 newly defined genotypes (G118–G163) in this study.

A Multi‐Reassortant H3N8 Avian Influenza Virus Derived From Migratory Birds in Eastern China Exhibits Cross‐Species Transmission Potential

Migratory birds are one of the main reservoirs and long‐distance transmission vectors of avian influenza viruses (AIVs). A migratory‐bird‐origin H3N8 subtype AIV (A/wild bird/Huadong/sy17/2024, hereafter named as WD/HDsy17/24) was isolated and identified in Jiangsu Province, Eastern China, in 2024. However, few studies...

First detection of High pathogenicity Avian Influenza A(H5N1) Clade 2.3.4.4b Genotype EA-2024-DI.2.1 in Egypt associated with migratory wild birds

High pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) H5 clade 2.3.4.4b is the main driver of the ongoing unprecedented global panzootic. The recently emerged HPAI H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b genotype EA-2024-DI.2.1 has become predominant in Europe, with migratory wild birds, particularly waterfowl, playing a major role in its disseminati...
