Abstract

In this article we consider polynomials orthogonal with respect to the inner product $$\langle P,Q \rangle_S = \int_{\mathbb{R}}P(x)Q(x) \mathrm{e}^{-V(x)} \, \mathrm{d}x + \lambda\int_{\mathbb{R}}P^\prime(x)Q^\prime(x) \mathrm{e}^{-V(x)} \, \mathrm{d}x$$ where $V$ is a polynomial of even degree (at least four) and positive leading coefficient, and $\lambda>0$ a constant. The above inner product is a special case of the so-called Sobolev inner product. We show how one can represent the associated Sobolev orthogonal polynomials as a species of Type I multiple-orthogonal polynomial. This correspondence makes use of the WKB asymptotics of a certain second order ODE. From this we may write a Riemann--Hilbert problem for the Sobolev orthogonal polynomials, from which one can deduce a Christoffel--Darboux-type formula for the projection kernel.

Orthogonal polynomials which are eigenfunctions of a partial differential operator

We study orthogonal polynomials of $d = d_1+d_2$ variables with respect to a wrapped product weight function ${\bm W}({\bm x},{\bm y}) = W_1({\bm x}/\rho({\bm y})) W_2(\bm y)$ for $(\bm x, \bm y) \in \mathbb{R}^{d_1} \times \mathbb{R}^{d_2}$, where $\rho$ is either linear or the square root of a nonnegative quadratic p...

Products and Convolutions in Hermite-Sobolev spaces

In this paper, we show that the product, or equivalently the convolutions of two functions in the Hermite-Sobolev spaces $\mathcal{S}_p(\mathbb{R}^d)$ is again in the same space, for $p$ depending on the dimension $d$. As a consequence, for such $p$ we show that the product, or equivalently the convolutions of $\phi \i...

The nonlinear Hausdorff-Young inequality

We prove the constant-one discrete nonlinear Hausdorff-Young inequality. As a consequence, by a discrete-to-continuous limiting argument, we obtain $$ \|(\log|a_f|^{2})^{1/2}\|_{L^{p'}(\mathbb{R})} \le \|f\|_{L^{p}(\mathbb{R})},\quad 1\le p<2, $$ for all $f\in L^{p}(\mathbb{R})$, where $a_f$ denotes the transmission co...

Degenerate Sobolev and Poincar\'e inequalities via extrapolation

In this paper we prove matrix weighted Sobolev and Poincar\'e inequalities using techniques derived from the theory of Rubio de Francia extrapolation. Given weights $w,\,v$ and a symmetric non-negative definite matrix valued function $Q$ defined on a connected open subset $\Omega$ of $\mathbb{f}R^n$ that satisfies the...

A proof of the strong Gaussian product inequality conjecture

Let $\boldsymbol{X} = (X_1,\ldots,X_n)$ be a centered Gaussian vector, not necessarily nondegenerate. It is proved that, for every $\alpha_1,\ldots,\alpha_n>0$, \[ \mathsf{E}\left[\prod_{i=1}^n |X_i|^{\alpha_i}\right] \geq \prod_{i=1}^n \mathsf{E}\left[|X_i|^{\alpha_i}\right]. \] When all marginal variances are positiv...

Decay estimates for a class of dispersive equations with partial inverse-square potentials

Let $\mathcal{L}_a=-\Delta_x-\Delta_y+\frac{a}{2}|x|^{-2}$ with $a>0$ denote the Schr\"odinger operator on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^2_x\times \mathbb{R}^n_y)$, which involves a singular partial inverse-square potential. The purpose of this manuscript is twofold. First, relying on the explicit representation for the spectral mea...
