TL;DR

Low-field MRI demonstrated high sensitivity in detecting tumor heterogeneity, cystic degeneration, necrosis, hemorrhage, and contrast enhancement patterns, which were critical for tumor grading and Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI improved differentiation between benign and malignant tumors.

Abstract

Abstract. Brain tumors remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. High-field MRI is considered the gold standard for neuro-oncological diagnostics; however, its availability is limited in many regions. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic capabilities of a low-field 0.2 T MRI system in detecting and characterizing intracranial tumors and to compare the findings with CT data. A retrospective analysis of 14,570 brain examinations performed between 2000  and 2009 identified 678 space-occupying lesions (4.7%). Gliomas, metastases, and meningiomas were the most common tumors. Low-field MRI demonstrated high sensitivity in detecting tumor heterogeneity, cystic degeneration, necrosis, hemorrhage, and contrast enhancement patterns, which were critical for tumor grading. Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI improved differentiation between benign and malignant tumors. The results indicate that low-field MRI is a valuable, cost-effective tool for neuro-oncological diagnostics, particularly in resource-limited settings.

Diagnostic Value of Diffusion Weighted Imaging & MR Spectroscopy in Characterisation of Intracranial Neoplasms with Histopathological Correlation

Introduction: Intracranial neoplasms represent a heterogeneous group of lesions with varied biological behaviour, prognosis, and management strategies. Accurate preoperative characterization remains a diagnostic challenge, as conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) often shows overlapping features among different...

Imaging MRI biomarkers for diagnosing brain radionecrosis: focus on incomplete ring enhancement sign.

The incomplete ring enhancement sign is a potential diagnostic sign of brain radionecrosis and associated morphologic features, including fragmentation, satellite foci, and watershed localization, may reinforce the diagnosis.

Quantitative Permeability MRI for Preoperative Differentiation of Warthin Tumors and Malignant Salivary Gland Lesions

Background/Objectives: Preoperative characterization of salivary gland tumors remains challenging because conventional MRI and diffusion-weighted imaging may show overlapping features, particularly between Warthin tumors and malignant lesions. This study evaluated the diagnostic value of quantitative permeability MRI b...

Pathologic Characterization of Non-Mass Enhancement Lesions of the Breast in MRI-guided Biopsy.

OBJECTIVE Breast MRI is widely used for screening high-risk patients and for assessing the extent of disease in patients with breast cancer. The goal of this study was to determine the pathologic findings associated with MRI-guided core needle biopsies performed for non-mass enhancement (NME) lesions of the breast. M...
