TL;DR

Focusing on interfacial rheology, with particular attention to mechanical hysteresis, it is discussed how dynamic interfacial observables may provide experimentally accessible indicators of how lipid assemblies accumulate, dissipate, and reorganize lateral stresses, and how such responses may become linked to membrane organization and remodelling.

Constraint-Driven Deformation and Periodic Assembly Formation in Elliptical Bilayer Membranes.

Understanding how geometric confinement regulates the structure, elasticity, and morphological evolution of polymer bilayer membranes remains a fundamental challenge in soft matter physics. Here, we develop a multiscale framework combining constraint-based self-consistent field (SCF) theory with the Helfrich elastic mo...

Cholesterol-Dependent Structure and Dynamics of Curved Lipid Vesicles Revealed by Dry MARTINI Simulations

Cholesterol is a key regulator of membrane structure and dynamics, yet its effects on large curved vesicles under implicit-solvent coarse-grained conditions remain incompletely understood. Equilibrating large Dry MARTINI vesicles is challenging because transient membrane deformations can arise during the early stages o...

Molecular interfacial rheology: Lipid membrane shear viscosity

We develop a method to extract the shear viscosity of a lipid membrane from equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The method characterizes the rheology of general interfacial systems embedded in three-dimensional media; we term it molecular interfacial rheology. In our simulations the planar bilayer and surroundi...

The thermodynamic state map of biomolecular condensates

The Condensate Code is refined as a testable thermodynamic state map that integrates continuous cellular inputs, intrinsic molecular grammar and boundary conditions to govern measurable material states and a continuum from electrostatic coacervates to viscoelastic networks is highlighted.

Beyond stiffness: interfacial slippage and active cellular matrix remodelling in focal adhesion dynamics.

Focal adhesion (FA) dynamics and cell migration depend sensitively on the mechanical properties of the extracellular matrix, yet substrate stiffness alone cannot account for the distinct behaviours observed on natural versus artificial materials. In this review, we synthesize experimental findings on cells interacting...
