Abstract
This study examined depression and its associated determinants among older adults in Northeastern Thailand, with particular emphasis on digital connectivity and social isolation. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1,522 adults aged ≥60 years selected through multistage stratified random sampling. Data were collected using standardized interviews and analyzed using generalized linear mixed models. Depression was significantly associated with younger-old age (60-69 years), unemployment, living alone, poor health status, severe stress, social isolation, low digital connectivity, low social media use, and poor quality of life. Older adults with low digital connectivity (AOR = 5.47; 95% CI: 1.76-4.29; p < 0.001), living alone (AOR = 4.67; 95% CI: 1.78-2.37; p = 0.03), and severe stress (AOR = 3.92; 95% CI: 3.21-4.80; p < 0.001) showed markedly higher odds of depression. The findings underscore the importance of digital inclusion and social participation as potential strategies for reducing depression among aging populations in rural settings.
ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the factors associated with successful aging among community-dwelling older adults in rural Indonesia. Method: This analytical cross-sectional study involved 104 older adults aged ≥60 years living in Lamongan Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through structured face-to-face interviews assessing sociodemographic characteristics, health status, and five indicators of successful aging: physical function, cognitive function, psychological well-being, social engagement, and active engagement with life. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine significant predictors. Results: Half of the respondents demonstrated moderate levels of successful aging. Working status (β = 0.383; 95% CI: 0.201–0.565; p < 0.001) and distance to health facilities (β = 0.588; 95% CI: 0.242–0.935; p = 0.001) were significant determinants. Older adults who were still working and those living 1–5 km from health facilities had higher successful aging scores. Conclusion: Successful aging among rural older adults is influenced by working status and proximity to healthcare facilities. Promoting productive activity and maintaining accessible, independent, and supportive health services are essential for aging well in rural communities.

Background: Depressive symptoms have become a significant public health issue faced by middle-aged and older adults in China. Although previous studies have primarily focused on demographic and socioeconomic factors, the association between modifiable lifestyle behaviors and depressive symptoms still requires further investigation. Objective: To examine the associations between sleep duration, physical activity, digital participation, social participation, and depressive symptoms as well as life satisfaction among middle-aged and older adults in China. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from the 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS). Depressive symptoms were defined as CES-D-10 scores ≥10, with 13,576 individuals included in the analysis sample. Adjusted prevalence ratios (aPRs) were estimated using modified Poisson regression, while ordinal logistic regression was employed to analyze life satisfaction. The analysis controlled for covariates such as demographics, socioeconomic status, and health status, and accounted for the complex sampling design. Results: The weighted prevalence of depressive symptoms was 44.5%. Sleep deprivation (<7 h/day) was significantly associated with elevated depressive symptoms (aPR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.33–1.68); participation in recreational activities was significantly associated with reduced depressive symptoms (aPR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.77–0.96); adequate physical activity was associated with a higher prevalence of elevated depressive symptoms (aPR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.04–1.32); watching videos (aPR = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.76–0.99) and playing online games (aPR = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.50–0.83) were significantly associated with reduced depressive symptoms; and overall internet use was correlated with lower life satisfaction (OR = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.81–1.00). Women, rural residents, and low-income groups exhibited higher prevalence of elevated depressive symptoms. Conclusion: Sleep deprivation, as well as different types of social engagement, physical activity, and digital behavior, exhibit distinct associations with depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults. Behavioral intervention strategies targeting sleep hygiene, leisure activities, and tailored digital behaviors warrant further attention.

BACKGROUND
Lack of social connections and limited social participation are associated with an increased risk of adverse health outcomes. Understanding the determinants that influence these social dimensions is essential for the early identification of vulnerable groups. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze factors associated with low social support and low social participation among Brazilian older adults with disabilities.
METHODS
A cross-sectional study was conducted with 5,511 older adults (≥ 60 years) with permanent disabilities, based on data from the 2019 Brazilian National Health Survey. Social support from friends and family, as well as the frequency of participation in physical, community, and religious activities, were assessed in relation to sociodemographic, economic, and health-related variables. Pearson's Chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression models were applied.
RESULTS
The prevalence of permanent disability was 24.7%, and the mean age of participants was 73.2 years. Lower levels of social support were observed among older adults aged 60-74 years, individuals with lower educational attainment, those without a partner, residents of urban areas in the North and Southeast regions, those with multiple domains of disability, and those reporting poorer self-rated health. Low social participation was more prevalent among men, older adults of more advanced age, White individuals, those with lower education, urban residents, individuals with poor self-rated health, those not using assistive devices, smokers, those with multiple domains of disability and those with no multimorbidity.
CONCLUSIONS
The findings contribute to the identification of groups most vulnerable to low social support and low social participation among older adults with disabilities. Because these patterns vary according to the type of social support and type of participation, this study highlights the importance of targeted strategies to promote social inclusion in aging populations.

OBJECTIVES
To identify factors associated with non-participation in health screenings amongst Korean older adults, with a focus on digital engagement, environmental accessibility, and end-of-life values.
STUDY DESIGN
Cross-sectional study.
METHODS
Data from 9136 community-dwelling adults aged ≥65 years in the 2023 National Survey of Older Koreans were analysed using multivariable survey-weighted logistic regression.
RESULTS
Non-participation (20.2%) was associated with older age, male sex, unmarried status, poverty, and urban residence. Smartphone use (OR 1.38), dissatisfaction with public transportation (OR 1.16 per 1-point decrease), and life-sustaining treatment (LST) decline (OR 1.35) were independently associated with non-participation. Depression (OR 1.66) and cognitive impairment (OR 1.71) were the strongest modifiable predictors. Sex- and age-stratified analyses revealed differential patterns.
CONCLUSIONS
Improving screening uptake requires a multifaceted approach addressing psychological health, digital-era paradoxes, and structural transportation barriers.
