Abstract

Superhydrophobic coatings are often limited in practical applications due to the fragile micro/nanostructures and poor mechanical resistance. Herein, a facile one‐pot synthesis strategy was proposed to fabricate an organic–inorganic composite coating with a three‐dimensional interconnected cross‐linked network through in situ photopolymerization of vinyltriethoxysilane (ETS) and its dehydration condensation reaction with natural halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). When the HNT loading reached 25 wt% of ETS, the as‐prepared coating exhibited uniform superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of ~150°. More importantly, owing to its consistent structure and chemical composition throughout the surface and bulk, the coating retained excellent hydrophobic stability even after severe mechanical abrasion. Beyond its simplicity and avoidance of organic solvents or fluorinated reagents, this strategy provides an effective way to prepare durable superhydrophobic coatings, which hold significant potential for many practical applications such as waterproofing and self‐cleaning.

Robust Superhydrophobic Coatings Enabled by Carbonation‐Induced In Situ Hydrophobization

Conventional carbonation of calcium silicates locks away CO2 yet leaves behind hydrophilic, brittle surfaces. Here, we transform this limitation into an opportunity by developing a hydrophobization‐assisted carbonation strategy that simultaneously fixes CO2 and constructs a durable superhydrophobic coating. The introdu...

Polydimethylsiloxane‐Based Composites: A Review of Design, Characterization, and Emerging Applications

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is a widely used silicone elastomer owing to its flexibility, chemical inertness, optical transparency, and biocompatibility. However, its relatively low mechanical strength, poor thermal and electrical conductivity, and hydrophobic surface limit its performance in advanced applications....

Spray‐Driven Corrosion‐Resistant Superhydrophobic Coating With Multiscale Particles Reinforcement and Its Applicability to Various Environments

Insufficient mechanical strength and tedious preparation processes of corrosion‐resistant superhydrophobic coatings have long restricted their practical application. In this work, a superhydrophobic coating is proposed through the incorporation of multiscale micro‐glass fiber (GF)/micro‐TiB 2 /nano‐TiO 2 partic...

Construction of Superhydrophobic Surfaces Enhanced by Silanized-CNC-Assisted PVDF/PDMS Microsphere Coating

Coatings based on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)-based polymeric microspheres can be easily fabricated via non-solvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) and electrostatic spraying (ES) techniques. Both techniques are promising strategies for constructing superhydrophobic surfaces on vari...
