TL;DR

This case underscores that, even in FV deficiency with a negative inhibitor screen, testing for anti-FV IgG is essential for identifying hyperclearance-type autoimmune FV deficiency (AiFVD), and ex vivo VET and TGT provided actionable assessments of hemostatic capacity and proved useful for guiding management in AiFVD.

Isolated Severe Prolongation of Prothrombin Time Revealing Congenital Factor VII Deficiency With Mild Bleeding Phenotype: A Case Report

Congenital Factor VII (FVII) deficiency is a rare inherited bleeding disorder characterized by marked variability in bleeding severity and poor correlation between factor activity levels and clinical phenotype. We report a 21-year-old woman who presented with recurrent spontaneous ecchymoses without mucosal bleeding, m...

Perioperative discovery of KLKB1 c.451dupT mutation causing prekallikrein deficiency in a Saudi child: A case report of safe surgery despite isolated severe aPTT prolongation

Prekallikrein deficiency, a rare autosomal recessive disorder, results in isolated prolongation of activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) without associated bleeding symptoms. This condition often complicates preoperative screenings and can lead to unnecessary testing and healthcare expenditures. We report the fi...

Features of the Blood Coagulation System in Patients with Coronavirus Infection

Coronavirus infection is a powerful trigger for damage to the haemostatic system, especially in the acute phase. Diagnostically significant laboratory signs of inflammation include elevated D-dimer and procalcitonin levels and prolonged coagulation parameters (prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin...

Preoperative Coagulation Screening in Elective Surgery: Prevalence and Spectrum of Hemostatic Abnormalities in Diyala Governorate

Preoperative screening tests are important for recognizing medical conditions that may mark surgical or anesthetic outcomes. This study evaluated the usefulness of routine coagulation screening in detecting bleeding risks prior to elective surgery. Over one year (January 2023–January 2024), 500 patients referred for pr...
