This study provides an identification key to the new species of Pholiotina, together with morphological descriptions and line drawings, and the taxonomic issues that remain to be addressed were proposed.

Abstract

Abstract In this study, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference phylogenetic trees were reconstructed for Pholiotina based on the phylogenetic framework of the genus established by Song and Bau and on a concatenated dataset of internal transcribed spacer (ITS), nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA (28S), and translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1-α) sequences. The phylogenetic trees resolved Pholiotina into two monophyletic clades: one containing sect. Pholiotina and the other comprising sect. Vestitae together with sect. Intermediae. The infrageneric subdivision of the genus was also reviewed, and the taxonomic issues that remain to be addressed were proposed. By further integrating morphological evidence, three new species of Pholiotina were discovered from Jilin Province and the Xizang Autonomous Region: P. constrictibasidiata (characterized by basidia with a median constriction), P. raribasidiata (notable for its rare basidia and basidiospores), and P. jilinensis (distinguished by the absence of pileocystidia and germ pores, with its type locality in Jilin City). In addition, this study provides an identification key to the new species, together with morphological descriptions and line drawings.

Three new Penicillium species (section Lanata-Divaricata, Aspergillaceae, Eurotiales) from agricultural soil in Yunnan, China

Abstract Eight fungal strains isolated from agricultural soils in mountainous regions of Yunnan Province, China, were identified as three novel species of Penicillium section Lanata-Divaricata based on morphological characteristics and multi-locus phylogenetic analyses. Phylogenetic inference using four gene regions, i...

Morphological and phylogenetic analyses of Gonatobotryum (Dothideaceae, Dothideales), and the description of a new species from a mangrove sediment in Brazil

Gonatobotryum is an anamorphic fungus reported mainly as a saprophyte, parasite, or endophyte. The genus has traditionally been identified based on morphological features, with its phylogenetic placement remaining uncertain due to the lack of molecular data. During the analysis of fungi obtained from mangrove sediments...

Multigene phylogeny and taxonomy of Hydnaceae (Cantharellales, Basidiomycota) reveal Leucopruina abieticola gen. et sp. nov. from Southwest China

During a survey of wood-decaying fungi in the subalpine forests of Southwest China, distinctive corticioid specimens were collected from fallen Abies trunks. Based on a combination of morphological characteristics and multigene phylogenetic analyses of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and nuclear large subunit (nL...

Two new species and one new record of Bolbitius (Bolbitiaceae, Agaricales) from northeast China

Abstract A taxonomic study of the genus Bolbitius from northeast China was conducted, based on morphological observations and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Phylogenetic relationships were reconstructed, based on a combined multi-locus dataset comprising the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), nuclear large subunit (n...

Taxonomy and phylogeny of Litschauerella (Hymenochaetales) and Tubulicium (Trechisporales) in East Asia: Three new species and six new records

Abstract Litschauerella and Tubulicium are corticioid genera that share distinctive lyocystidia with multiple roots but differ in the chemical reactions and surface ornamentation of these structures, as well as in basidiospore morphology. Their familial placements have long remained unresolved due to a lack of molecula...

Morphological and phylogenetic analyses reveal two new species of Chaetosphaeriaceae from Jiangxi Province, China

Abstract Chaetosphaeriaceae is a group of micro-ascomycetes widely distributed in diverse ecosystems worldwide. Group members are commonly found on decaying wood, leaf litter and in moist soil. However, their diversity in soil habitats, especially in understudied bamboo forest ecosystems, remains poorly characterised....
