TL;DR

This work reports for the first time that the atypical BCL2 protein BCL2L13 controls caspase-3 activity and cytochrome C release in neural stem/progenitor cells and identifies BCL2L13 as a novel target of the cooperative action of microRNA-124 and microRNA-137, both upregulated in the dentate gyrus shortly after kainic acid-induced seizures.

Dysregulated adult hippocampal neurogenesis in major depressive disorders.

A neurogenic lineage in the adult human hippocampal subgranular zone is identified and evidence for a stalled neurogenic process in MDD is provided, associated with transcriptional regulation, stress-related reprogramming and interferon signaling across developmental stages.

Epigenetic perturbation unravels diverse origins, state conversions and de-differentiation of cortical astrocytes

The role of epigenetic modifiers in astrogenesis is less understood compared to neurogenesis. For example, the Disruptor of telomeric silencing 1 like, DOT1L, conferring H3K79 methylation safeguards neural progenitors from premature differentiation in various brain regions, however, its role in astrogenesis has not yet...

A single-nucleus regulatory atlas links transposable elements to adult hippocampal neurogenesis

Adult hippocampal neurogenesis can be enhanced or even triggered by extrinsic stimuli, but the lineage-specific regulatory changes that accompany a stimulated neurogenic response remain undefined. We used recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO), a defined influencing factor that enriches newly formed pyramidal neurons...

Postmitotic Regulation of Neuronal Subpopulations in the Cerebellum

It is found that a large proportion of granule neurons predominantly express the C2 gene program during early postmitotic differentiation, but that C2 genes are downregulated in a subset of neurons during late postnatal development, leading to comparable proportions of C1 and C2 neurons in adulthood.

Canonical Wnt signaling regulates NG2 glia fate and plasticity in healthy and ischemic cortex

NG2 glia, also known as oligodendrocyte precursor cells, display unexpected plasticity in the adult brain after injury, yet the molecular cues guiding their fate remain unclear. The Wnt signaling pathway contributes to post-stroke responses, but its role in glial remodeling is not well defined. Here, we show that Wnt...
