TL;DR

The results showed that the competency in technology is not enough to teach effectively in digital environments and it is important to embed moral values, ethical decision-making, and digital responsibility into teacher education programmes so that teachers can be trained to be ethical leaders to navigate the complexity of contemporary digital education with ethical professional judgment.

Abstract

This swift adoption of online learning, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies has revolutionized the way teaching takes place, and has raised ethical issues regarding academic integrity, data privacy, algorithmic bias, digital citizenship, and professional responsibility. The purpose of this paper was to explore the moral aspects of teachers in the digital era and to create a conceptual framework based on values to reinforce ethical teacher education in digital-mediated learning. The study design was a qualitative conceptual review design with a desk based literature review. To identify relevant peer reviewed journal articles, academic books, policy documents, and reports on digital pedagogy, teacher ethics, ethical leadership, artificial intelligence in education, and professional responsibility, a purposive sampling strategy was used. The data collected were done by using a structured document review matrix which systematically recorded major finding, ethical issues, key concepts, and theoretical explanations from selected literature. The collected data were analysed using thematic analysis and conceptual synthesis to discover the common ethical themes and connections in the data. The analysis revealed five dimensions of ethical teacher practice in the digital era that are interlinked: digital citizenship, ethical use of artificial intelligence, inclusivity and equity, reflective professionalism, and professional accountability. The dimensions together guided the conceptual framework for teacher education that had the moral values. The results showed that the competency in technology is not enough to teach effectively in digital environments. It is important to embed moral values, ethical decision-making, and digital responsibility into teacher education programmes so that teachers can be trained to be ethical leaders to navigate the complexity of contemporary digital education with ethical professional judgment.
