Layered two-dimensional halide perovskites (2D HPs) have emerged as a versatile platform for studying strongly bound excitons in the presence of spin–orbit coupling, structural symmetry breaking, and pronounced coupling to lattice vibrations. In this Mini-Review, we focus on the monolayer limit of this class of materials and highlight recent progress in understanding excitonic fine structure and optical selection rules, chiral and spin-dependent optical response, exciton–phonon coupling and exciton relaxation pathways, and the breakdown of simple band-edge pictures in 2D HPs in which organic and inorganic electronic states hybridize or more complex band structures emerge as a consequence of metal-cation chemistry. Throughout, we emphasize the role of atomistic theoretical and computational frameworks in interpreting the rapidly growing experimental literature. Together, these developments highlight 2D HPs as an unusually rich class of low-dimensional materials for studying spin-optical and excitonic quantum phenomena.
Two-dimensional layered magnetic materials offer a versatile platform for exploring low-dimensional magnetism and coupled many-body interactions in these materials. Chromium sulfur bromide (CrSBr) is a promising candidate for advanced spintronic and optoelectronic applications because of its intrinsic air stability, se...

The interplay between dimensionality, band-edge electronic structure, and electron-hole interactions governs the optical response of low-dimensional tellurium, yet the microscopic origin of its excitonic behavior remains largely unexplored. Here, we investigate the quasiparticle, excitonic, and optical properties of tw...

Two-dimensional hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (2D HOIPs) have emerged as a promising class of semiconductors for next-generation spin-optoelectronic applications, owing to their structural tunability and rich spin-dependent optoelectronic properties. Their layered organic-inorganic architectures also offer oppor...

2D Ruddlesden‐Popper perovskites exhibit strong excitonic behavior, but their performance is simultaneously governed by exciton‐phonon coupling and lattice dynamics. Here, we investigate the halide‐dependent lattice dynamics and its influence on exciton behavior in butylammonium‐based low‐dimensional perovskites, B...

Motivated by the unique characteristics of the phase diagram of 1T-TiSe2, we investigated the complex interplay of excitonic charge density wave (CDW) and superconductivity (SC) on a two-dimensional triangular lattice, each site accommodating two orbitals. In response to various tuning parameters, such as intercalation...
In bulk semiconductors, luminescence is treated under the electric dipole approximation, where magnetic dipole (MD) and higher-order multipolar transitions are assumed negligible under parity selection rules. However, two-dimensional (2D) metal-halide perovskites frequently exhibit anomalous low-energy emission signa...
