Abstract

Simple Summary This paper looks at whether artificial intelligence (AI) can help doctors detect and manage blood clots in cancer patients—a serious condition called cancer-associated thromboembolism (CAT). The authors explain that while AI shows promise for finding clots on CT scans, it often gives false alarms, especially in cancer patients. AI also cannot reliably tell tumor clots from ordinary clots, and it has not been proven to improve patient survival. The authors conclude that AI is not ready to work alone. Instead, it should serve as a helpful second pair of eyes for radiologists, with human oversight still absolutely necessary.
