Abstract

The productivity of urdbean (Vigna mungo L. Hepper) in India faces significant challenges from insect pests and diseases, resulting in substantial yield losses. This study evaluated the efficacy and compatibility of novel insecticides like thiamethoxam and spinosad and a fungicide, propiconazole for the integrated management of sucking pests (aphids, whiteflies) and diseases (Yellow Mosaic Virus, Cercospora Leaf Spot) in urdbean under kharif upland conditions. Field research trials demonstrated that combined applications significantly reduced pest populations and disease severity without causing phytotoxicity, leading to higher yields. Thiamethoxam 25 WG + propiconazole 25 EC recorded the highest pest reduction (up to 82.7% for aphids, 75% for whiteflies) and disease control (72.4% for CLS), resulting in a yield increase of 87.8% overcontrol. The treatment including thiamethoxam 25 WG + propiconazole 25 EC registered the highest net return of Rs 16,955/- and the highest B:C ratio of 1.79. This cost-effective, compatible tank-mix approach provides a sustainable solution for resource-poor farmers, enhancing urdbean productivity and supporting food security.

Evaluation of Fungicides and Botanical Extracts for the Management of Tomato Late Blight Caused by Phytophthora infestans

Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary causes one of the most devastating diseases of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and can cause severe losses in yield and economy worldwide (late blight). Rapid growth and several infection cycles occur in a single growing season under favorable environmental conditions (cool tempe...

Evaluation of insecticides for the control of Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner, 1897) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench (Poales: Poaceae) under greenhouse conditions

The yellow sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner), is an important pest due to its high reproductive capacity and the damage it causes by feeding on plant sap. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the insecticides sulfoxaflor, spirotetramat, flupyradifurone, and imidacloprid, applied at...

Efficacy of fungicide against cercospora leaf spot (Cercospora sesami) disease of sesame (Sesamum indicum)

Cercospora leaf spot (CLS) is a major constraint in sesame production due to its polycyclic nature and the pathogen’s tendency to develop resistance to single-site fungicides. This study evaluated the efficacy of Propiconazole, Metalaxyl, Tebuconazole, and Tetramethylthiuram disulfide (TMTD) applied alone and in co...

Efficacy of Insecticides and Biopesticides against Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) and their Toxicity to the Predatory Coccinellid, Coccinella septempunctata L.

The wheat aphid, Rhopalosiphum maidis, is an important sap-feeding insect-pest that adversely affects wheat growth and productivity. Although synthetic insecticides provide rapid aphid suppression, their adverse effects on predators necessitate the evaluation of comparatively safer pest-management options. The present...

Management of cucurbit fruit fly Dacus ciliates (Diptera: Tephritidae) and cotton whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) by botanical extracts and bioactive compounds as safe alternatives to squash

The increasing infestation caused by cucurbit fruit fly Dacus ciliatus Loew (Diptera: Tephritidae) and the cotton whiteflyBemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), highlights the need for effective and environmentally compatible pest management alternatives in squash production. This study evaluated a divers...
