Abstract

Simple Summary Lowering the dietary crude protein (CP) content by 1–4% in finishing pigs, when appropriately paired with restricting amino acids, enhances feed efficiency and decreases nitrogen excretion without negatively affecting performance. Adding 0.05–0.1% N-carbamylglutamate (NCG) to these low-protein diets addresses potential protein deficiencies by promoting arginine synthesis, fostering muscle growth, and improving nitrogen utilization. This study investigated the optimum level of two different crude protein densities (low and high) and dietary N-carbamylglutamate supplementation on finishing pigs’ performance, blood profile, gut health, and meat quality. Low-protein diets (13% CP) improved nitrogen retention, blood parameters (blood urea nitrogen, BUN), and carcass amino acids, while 0.1% NCG supplementation improved gut health, and meat quality in finishing pigs. Lowering protein levels is beneficial for improving nitrogen retention and blood parameters, and supplementing with 0.1% NCG can improve gut health and meat quality. In conclusion, a combination of a low-protein diet (13% CP) and 0.1% NCG supplementation is an effective strategy to improve carcass characteristics, blood parameters, gut health, and nitrogen utilization without detrimental effects on performance in finishing pigs.

N-carbamylglutamate (NCG) supplementation in low-protein diets improving egg quality by regulating protein metabolism pathway of oviduct in laying hens

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of low‐protein dietary supplementation with NCG on productivity, egg quality and possible regulatory mechanisms in laying Hens. A total of 150 Beijing Type 2 laying hens at 300 days of age were randomly assigned to five groups: a control group, a low-protein diet...

PS4-27. N-carbamylglutamate Alters Plasma Amino Acids in Beef Cattle Fed High- or Low-forage Diets.

N-carbamylglutamate (NCG) has been used as a nutritional additive with potential to modulate nitrogen metabolism and amino acid (AA) synthesis in cattle. The plasma AA profile is a useful tool to assess these metabolic responses. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of NCG supplementation and dietary forage level...

This study evaluated the effects of increasing medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA) supplementation levels on growth performance, fecal score, energy, antioxidant, and inflammatory status in nursery pigs fed high protein diets. A total of 72 pigs (initial body weight: 6.68 ± 0.97 kg weaned at 17.0 ± 3.02 d of age) were all...

Influence of Dietary Rumen-Protected Choline and Nicotinic Acid Supplementation on Growth Outcomes and Meat Tenderness, Rumen Microbial Composition, and Serum Metabolomics of Late-Fattening Beef Cattle

High-concentrate feeding during late fattening can impair metabolic health and meat quality in beef cattle, yet effective nutritional strategies remain limited. Choline and nicotinic acid are involved in lipid and energy metabolism, but information on their combined or sequential supplementation is scarce. This study e...
