Abstract

The geosynchronous orbit (GEO) region hosts critical high-value satellites, making continuous space situational awareness essential for collision risk assessment and national security. We propose a model for quantitatively evaluating the performance and gain of ground-based optical telescope networks for GEO observation, with emphasis on key metrics including spatiotemporal coverage, system sensitivity, and detection latency for single and multiple stations. This framework supports flexible adjustment of site coordinates, sky background, telescope aperture, detector characteristics, and observational conditions, which provides decision-oriented data support for global network deployment and resource allocation. Validated against Stellarium simulations, the model demonstrates a mean spatial coverage error of 0.49% with high geometric accuracy. Brightness prediction errors below 1.0 magnitude relative to measured data confirm its feasibility and numerical stability. Combined with a two-facet model, the framework enables albedo-area retrieval of unresolved GEO targets, specifically for three-axis-stabilized satellites.

Coordination of Ground-to-Space Reference Networks for High-Precision GNSS

High-precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) services rely on accurate orbit, clock, atmospheric, and hardware-bias corrections generated from reference observations. These products are traditionally derived from terrestrial reference networks, whose performance strongly depends on the density and geographi...

Robust on-orbit photogrammetry for satellite deployable antennas

On-orbit photogrammetry of large deployable satellite antennas is challenged by intense solar stray-light interference, weak observation-network geometry, and the propagation of local measurement errors. To address these interconnected challenges, this paper proposes a robust photogrammetric framework tailored for hars...

Near-Space Geolocation Using Sequential Stellar Refraction Angle Observations With an Explicit Measurement Model

Autonomous geolocation is required for near-space aircraft when the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is unavailable. Stellar refraction navigation, which exploits the bending of starlight through the atmosphere, can serve as an independent aiding source. Conventional stellar-refraction models, however, assume...
