Sustainable Educational Goals and Quality Technical University Education in Ghana
Abstract
Purpose: This study investigates the intersection of quality Technical University Education and the advancement of Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to identify effective strategies, challenges, and opportunities. Design/Methodology/Approach: The review synthesises findings from the relevant literature retrieved via Google Scholar and EBSCO between 2011 and 2024 that demonstrate the direct benefits of technical universities in contributing to sustainable development. The PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) Checklist was used. Research Limitation: The review may be subject to publication bias, as it primarily includes studies published in English and indexed in major databases. Findings: The findings revealed significant strategies, such as curriculum integration, collaboration and partnership, and community engagement, among others, being utilised by these institutions in advancing the SDGs. Some opportunities identified include sustainability research, capacity building, technology integration, and global networks. Limited funding and inadequate infrastructure remain significant challenges. Practical Implication: Fostering inclusive education and leveraging technological advancements are probable ways to further the global SDG agenda. Societal Implication: Prioritising sustainability in technical education equips future generations with the knowledge and skills needed for a sustainable society. Originality/value: The review provides a blueprint for technical institutions and catalyses real-world change in the pursuit of sustainable development.
