Abstract

Toxicodendron vernicifluum is an economically important lacquer-producing tree endemic to East Asia; propagation bottlenecks severely restrict elite clone industrialization. This review summarizes 20 years of the domestic and international literature on seed propagation, root cutting, stem cutting, grafting, and tissue culture of lacquer tree, compares technical performance among China, Japan, Vietnam, and Mediterranean Rhus species, and quantitatively summarizes germination/rooting rates across protocols. Sexual propagation has low rooting efficiency; tissue culture faces high cost and browning obstacles; molecular regulatory mechanisms remain poorly characterized. We propose an integrated breeding framework combining molecular mechanism dissection, low-cost vegetative propagation optimization, and standardized plantlet production. Future directions including multi-omics analysis, gene-edited easy-rooting germplasm, and bioreactor micropropagation are highlighted to support large-scale elite clonal stock production in Qinba Mountain regions.

Transcriptomic Characterization of Adventitious Root Formation in Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook. During Cutting Propagation

Background: Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook. (C. lanceolata) is an important timber tree species in southern China. However, the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying adventitious root formation during cutting propagation remain largely unclear. The lack of genetic resources has hindered molecular breeding ef...

Propagação sexuada e assexuada de talinum paniculatum (jacq.) gaertn.

Talinum paniculatum is an unconventional food plant with nutritional and medicinal potential, yet it remains underexplored. Seed germination in this species may be limited by environmental factors and the occurrence of dormancy, requiring techniques that promote seedling establishment. Vegetative propagation emerges as...

Screening Plus Training: A Strategy to Counter Germplasm Degeneration in Cultivated Kelp ( Saccharina japonica )

Based on the introduced founder sporophytes, a set of S. japonica varieties and a few hybrid kelp have been bred and intensively cultivated in China. The cultivation of S. japonica has been running up against the impasse of germplasm degeneration characterized by low growth performance, degrading diseas...

Breeding jassid-resistant okra (Abelmoschus esculentus): from morpho-biochemical traits to precision breeding

Okra, an economically important vegetable in tropical and subtropical regions, faces severe yield constraints due to sap-sucking pests, particularly jassids (Amrasca spp.). These insects cause hopper burn, leaf curling, and chlorosis, leading to estimated yield losses of 30-100% under severe infestation. Farmers’ heavy...

Advances in conventional and in vitro propagation of tuberose (Agave amica (Medik.) Thiede & Govaerts): Challenges, opportunities and future perspectives

Tuberose (Agave amica (Medik.) Thiede & Govaerts) is a commercially significant ornamental bulbous crop, widely used by the floriculture and fragrance industries and known for its highly fragrant flowers. Propagation must be efficient to keep genetic consistency, floral quality and yield. Conventional bulb propagation...
