TL;DR

It is discovered that d-serine but not glycine is critical for maintaining the activity of NMDARs at FS-PV+ interneurons in the prelimbic area of the prefrontal cortex and that loss of its functions would recapitulate the synaptic deficits observed in several neuropsychiatric diseases like schizophrenia.

GABAB Receptors Gate Sex-Specific Synaptic Plasticity in the Nucleus Accumbens

Excitatory synaptic plasticity within the nucleus accumbens (NAc) drives motivated behaviors, and dysregulation is implicated in several psychiatric disorders marked by impaired reward processing. The NAc integrates glutamatergic input, which conveys information about reward, context, and behavioral goals, with local G...

Glycine Transporter 1 Inhibitor, Bitopertin, Changes Excitatory and Inhibitory Network Connectivity in Mouse Medial Prefrontal Cortex.

Cognitive deficits in Schizophrenia (SCZ) are correlated with excitation-inhibition (E/I) imbalance within the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). E/I imbalance may arise from N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) hypofunction and dysfunction of GABAergic neurotransmission. Previous research has shown that bitopertin, a g...

Pharmacological and Physiological Characteristics of Synaptic Transmissions From the Medial Prefrontal Cortex Onto Noradrenergic Neurons and Inhibitory Interneurons in the Mouse Locus Coeruleus

The locus coeruleus (LC) is the brain's primary source of norepinephrine. It modulates the brain's overall state of arousal. Recent evidence suggests that the LC also regulates immediate attentional responses by resetting related cortical networks to optimize behavioral outcomes. Cortical regions associated with high c...

α2δ-2 mediates coupling of presynaptic calcium entry to vesicle release in hippocampal parvalbumin-expressing interneurons

The α2δ family of auxiliary voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) subunits have critical but incompletely understood roles in brain function. Parvalbumin-positive (PV+) interneurons in the hippocampus highly express the α2δ-2 isoform, and mice lacking α2δ-2 exhibit spontaneous seizures. Thus, we examined PV+ neuron-medi...
