Abstract
This article constitutes an exercise in critical reflection on comprehensive education within the conceptual framework of the integrality of human development and is supported by a brief documentary analysis of public policies, taking as references the 1988 Federal Constitution, the LDB (Law No. 9,394/1996), among others. In close dialogue with texts of the critical tradition consolidated by authors such as Saviani (1989), Nosella (2007), and Frigotto (2010)—who address, respectively, the mastery of principles and polytechnics as a formative axis, the unity between manual and intellectual labor, and the critique of educational duality under guise—the text aims to clarify elements that reinforce the defense of comprehensive human development as a public right to knowledge, beyond market models anchored in liberal and non-critical perspectives of education. It concludes that rehabilitating comprehensive education as a public-formative direction requires that public policies cease to be a rhetorical horizon and become a material experience.
