Chrysin prevented the neurodegeneration caused by OHDA-6, leading to a lower rate of mortality in the neurons of the midbrain substantia nigra, leading to a lower rate of mortality in the neurons of the midbrain substantia nigra.

Abstract

Background: Chrysin, or 5,7-dihydroxyflavone, is a flavonoid with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects, which are significant in Parkinson’s disease. The objective of the study is to investigate the protective effects of chrysin in Parkinson’s disease. Materials and methods: Wistar strain rats were divided into three groups: treatment (receiving chrysin before and after OHDA-6 injection), control (injected with 0.9% normal saline into the left striatum), and lesion (injected with 0.9% normal saline and OHDA-6 into the left striatum). Behavioral testing with apomorphine hydrochloride was conducted 1 week before and 4 weeks after surgery. For histological examination, black blocks of tissue were prepared, and Nissl staining was used for neuron counting. Microscopic studies were performed by capturing images of the slides. Results: In the behavioral test conducted after apomorphine injection and before surgery, there was no significant difference in the number of rotations among the control, lesion, and treatment groups. However, after surgery, this difference was significant between the lesion and treatment groups (P ≤ 0.05). In Nissl staining, a significant difference in the number of neurons in the substantia nigra was observed between the treatment and lesion groups. Conclusion: According to the results obtained from this study, chrysin prevented the neurodegeneration caused by OHDA-6, leading to a lower rate of mortality in the neurons of the midbrain substantia nigra.

Rosmarinic acid attenuates arsenic-associated neurotoxicity in mice: Behavioral, biochemical, and histopathological evidence.

BACKGROUND Arsenic has a significant role in the pathogenesis of neurological disorders. Rosmarinic acid (RA) is a naturally occurring phenolic compound known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The present study aims to explore the effects of RA against neurotoxicity caused by sodium arsenite (SA) ex...

Neuroprotective effects of myricetin against rotenone-ınduced parkinsonian neurotoxicity: a multidimensional analysis in rats

MyR attenuated RTN-induced neurotoxicity and was associated with improved behavioral performance, reduced OS, and preservation of neuronal morphology, which support the protective potential of MYR against RTN-induced neurotoxicity exhibiting Parkinsonian-like features.

Neuroprotective effect of Carnosic acid in Rotenone induced Parkinson’s disease in mice

Background/Introduction: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by dopaminergic neuronal loss, oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Current therapies mainly provide symptomatic relief without preventing disease progression. Carnosic acid (CA), a natural phenolic di...

Neuroprotective potential of chrysin against ketamine-induced neurotoxicity: Effects on behavioral changes, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation.

AIM Ketamine (KTM) is widely used in clinical settings for its anesthetic, analgesic, and antidepressant properties. However, prolonged or repeated KTM exposure can induce neurotoxicity through oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and apoptotic mechanisms. This study investigated the neuroprotective effects of Chrysin...

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an age-dependent neurodegenerative condition. Aluminum chloride (AlCl3) is a worldwide neurotoxicant metal which is extensively used in daily life. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the active compound of Nigella Sativa seeds with anti-apoptotic and neuroprotective effects. Intermittent fasting (IF) is a...

Neuroprotective effects of oleuropein on dopamine level and caspase-3 activity in zebrafish model of Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, largely driven by oxidative stress-mediated apoptosis. Caspase-3 acts as the central executioner in this cell death pathway. While oleuropein, a phenolic compound from Olea europaea , is known for...
