Abstract

Accurate extraction of n× harmonic components is critical for rotor fault diagnosis but is challenged by speed fluctuations in quasi-constant-speed systems and the frequent unavailability of keyphasor signals. This paper proposes a novel resampling method based on the zero-crossing instants of the 1× rotational component. The method extracts the fundamental frequency via narrowband filtering, constructs a staircase signal from its zero-crossings, derives keyphasor pulses by differentiation, and performs uniform resampling between consecutive markers. Compared with the Hilbert phase unwrapping approach, the proposed method eliminates end effects and prevents error accumulation through piecewise resampling. Validation on both synthetic signals and Case Western Reserve University bearing data demonstrates that the method significantly improves the accuracy of 2× and 3× components, with amplitude increases of 40% and 70%, respectively. The results confirm that the proposed method provides an effective and reliable solution for harmonic extraction in quasi-constant-speed systems without requiring keyphasor signals.

A time-frequency method based on novel oddsymmetric window functions for mechanical equipment fault diagnosis

Under time-varying operating conditions, signals generated by mechanical equipment usually exhibit strong non-stationarity, frequency-modulation and amplitude-modulation (FM-AM), and contamination by background noise. These characteristics pose three main challenges for time-frequency analysis (TFA): the instantaneou...
