TL;DR

It is demonstrated that N protein-vgRNA condensates are spontaneously enveloped by lipid bilayer membranes, whereas condensates formed by N protein alone or with genomic RNA fragments fail to undergo envelopment and instead adhere to or weakly deform membranes.

Size Control of hnRNPK-based Nucleolar Condensates by RNA-Regulated Fusion Dynamics

Nucleoli are liquid-like condensates whose size is actively conserved—they remain small, numerous, and resistant to coalescence—yet the molecular mechanisms that constrain their fusion remain poorly understood. Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (hnRNPK), an RNA-binding protein implicated in nucleolar organizati...

The nucleoside analog CMX521 inhibits coronavirus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase via a two-pronged mechanism.

These findings establish a two-pronged mode of coronavirus polymerase inhibition by CMX521, and suggest a second inhibitory mechanism for CMX521 when the coronavirus polymerase is associated with the viral helicase.

Full-length premembrane protein is not required for mature Zika virus particle assembly.

Assembly of flaviviruses such as Zika virus (ZIKV), dengue virus, and West Nile virus in the host cell endoplasmic reticulum is driven by the structural envelope (E) and premembrane (prM) proteins. The formation of an infectious virion requires cleavage of prM by the host furin protease during a maturation step that is...

Variant-specific nucleocapsid mutations shape host innate immune trajectories during SARS- CoV-2 infection

It is found that the mutations induce distinct transcriptional and translational alterations: rN-Alpha drives a stealth-like infection characterized by sustained translation efficiency and specific evasion of the 2’-5’-oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS) innate immune sensor, whereas rN-Delta and rN-BA trigger a highly ele...

Beyond the Capsid: How Can Post-Translational Modifications Modulate the Multifunctionality of the Orthoflavivirus Capsid Protein?

This work reviews the current evidence on PTMs in orthoflavivirus C proteins and integrates insights from studies of other RNA viruses to propose mechanisms by which PTMs may regulate C protein function, and identifies conserved regulatory hotspots that represent promising targets for future experimental validation.
