2026 · International journal of research and innovation in social science · 0 citations

Abstract

In the digital era, public libraries have emerged as important hubs for informal education particularly in promoting digital literacy among students. This study investigates the role of digital literacy in improving student learning outcomes at the Tun Razak Library (PTR) in Ipoh, Perak. It examines how students’ abilities to evaluate information, use digital tools and participate in user education programs contribute to academic success. Despite increasing recognition of the importance of digital literacy, there is still a lack of empirical evidence in the context of Malaysian public libraries regarding its direct impact on measurable student outcomes. This study uses a quantitative research design and a structured questionnaire targeting students involved with PTR digital services. Data was analysed through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and multiple regression to identify the most effective digital literacy components. The findings are expected to provide actionable insights for library professionals, educators and policy makers in designing more effective digital literacy interventions in line with national education strategies and the MyDigital initiative. Finally, the research aims to position public libraries as important contributors to educational equity and student empowerment in the digital age.
